Bitsa shot blast cabinet

Afternoon Again,

Several years ago I bought a small shot blast cabinet but as my projects get bigger, I have out grown it. I have been looking at larger commercial cabinets but they seem very expensive for a box, so I thought that I would make one. When we bought the house there were several galvanised water tanks around the land which I was tempted to scrap but instead, I shoved them in a hedge for safe keeping. The larger one is an ideal size, the shot media reservoir is an old bucket welded underneath and the door some 3/4 ply that was left over from another project. I bought the gloves but made the arm hole surrounds from some odd bits of steel. It's all a bit bodge it and scarper but it works really well.

Neat!

Nice work. Looks like it would do a great job.

Gives me ideas.

Looks great. My princess auto unit is pretty good but I’ve done a pile of modifications to it Post purchase. I find anything too large for the cabinet is best to send off to my sandblaster guy.

What kind of compressor do you run?

I would suggest a sheet of the metal sheet that has the little 3/16 holes in it sitting over the center. That will trap any pieces or particles that could jam up the gun. The wood side could be a source of wood particles that will jam things up.

I also run a princess auto cabinet with some modifications. For larger things, they go outside to the blast shed. Living here in Shilo, sand is cheap....dig a hole anywhere and it is 6" down.

Is that silica sand? It is illegal to use it commercially here. Silica sand= Silicosis :nono:

No, not sand as using sand has been illegal since about 1950, I use glass.
