Looking for Source for Cage Nuts used on CMP

1 Attachment(s)
Does anybody have a bucket of NOS cage nuts used on CMPs? I've been looking and have not really found a good source, here in the States.

Nuts on the loose

Caged nuts are available here in Australia from a variety of Bodywork suppliers and light industrial suppliers in a range of sizes (Metric and SAE). If you have no luck sourcing them in the US, I can get them here for you.

Found a source for Cage Nuts

Found a source for the replacement cage nuts as used on CMPs. Of several found MAC's Antique Auto Parts had the best price. www.macsautoparts.com

1/4-20 Cage Nuts $0.60 per
5/16-24 Cage Nuts $0.95 per
3/8-24 Cage Nuts $1.60 per
1/2-13 Cage Nuts $1.65 per

I ordered the nuts I needed on 2/24/05 and received the parts on 3/2/05

MAC's also has a wide selection of Ford parts which might be of use

You wonderful son of a gun.... trying to be polite here....

I have been looking high and low for the proper Ford..(Yeck) door handles for our cab 11/12...... do you realize that this Mac shop has all kinds of Ford (spit) parts....... follow the link set up by Phil on the precious message.....

Look under the Early V8 Ford ( yeah I know)... and search door handles...... even have pictures.......

I think it is part no# 68-702350-A..... I have sent them a close up picture of the handle from the Kars museum Ford Cab 11 to make sure......

I am ordering the catalogue now for the $5 bucks they are asking......

NOTE.... moderator this might be better listed under the "restoration" section.....

Phil I owe you a big cold one.......

Caged nuts are available form Spaenaer box of 50, they have a web site! Ontario supplier

http://www.spaenaur.com/

P/N N69 for 1/4-20 NC

P/N N61 for 5/16-18 NC

Used for my CGT restoration, drill both flanges 1/4 inch and plug weld if you can't spot weld. Used well over 50 for cab alone.

Stove bolts...

1 Attachment(s)
Hi Walde

All these nuts will drive you crazy.... thanks for the tip... I will look them up.

But the BURNING question is where do you find a supllier for the stove bolts......1/4 by 20 that are single slot on the head..... I had to cut, drill, heat up, or chew up quite a few on my truck......

I suspect Rob Clarke will need some and Francesco in Tuscany Italy is also looking for them.....

The nose piece of the Cab 11 which still carried a good portion of the original stove bolts had one small difference...although recessed they had a slightly convex rounded face... and so far I have hit a blank finding them.

I did find a few old NOS Stainless steel at a car show...so I know they do exists...but where....???

Any suggestions guys????

Photo attached is from Francesco from Italy....

Re: Stove bolts...

If we are talking about same bolts they are readily available here in the states. I bought them by the box at the local hardware store when I did the other trucks. I have to get some for Pattern 12 cab so as soon as I do will post pictures. It they are the correct ones be glad to send you what ever you need.

Its raining nuts and bolts.....

Hi Phil

I followed up on Walde suggestion with Spaenour and found all the stove bolts I can use... in fact he even has them in stainless steel.... which I intend to go for.... if I ever have to remove the nose to do some maintenance they are less likely to rust....

Price quoted for the flat head single slot and also the rounded oval head is $43.00 +- for the steel ones SS will be a bit more.

However, I had to increase my limited vocabulary...caged ntus in Canada are "retainer nuts"..... however they quoted something like $1.35 Canadian each versus the Mac store at 0.60 cents USA.

The good thing is Mac also has new repro door handles for our trucks...... at $23.00 US each I think that is a fair deal.

Once I get the prices settled down at Spaenour I will post my findings.....

You might also be interested in the tape..cloth...impregated with something... 1 1/2 wide...anti squeak... that Speanour has listed in the catalogue..... Chris Vickery was looking for that at one point...... will check that out and post the results....

Thanks for all the net working Phil..Walde... sure makes the Forum worthwhile.

I have a Spaenaur catalogue that I use as my Bible. They have inside door handles for my 12 cab FAT, the correct hatch cover latch for early cab FAT's and on and on. I cannot post a photo on this forum but if anyone wants a scan of a particular item send me a message and I will send it. The catalogue is qute a bit easier to peruse than the website. The catalogue is about 3 inches thick which makes for good WC reading.

Nuts and things

I've found a number of online sellers of hardware as well as other sellers of restoration items suitable for CMP, such as fender welt, antisqueak, etc.

For nuts and bolts and screws I like: http://www.nutty.com/index.html

Has lots of slotted stuff, and square and caged nuts.

Phil Waterman 12-03-05 20:54

Different names for the same part

Bob when you said “ I had to increase my limited vocabulary...caged nuts in Canada are "retainer nuts".” You hit the nail on the head with doing web searches I had been looking for almost two years to find a source for “cage nuts” “captive nuts” weld nuts” etc never did search for “retainer nuts” must have looked through a thousand sites.

Couple of times I though I had found them McMaster showed them in their catalog but they were out of stock. When I found them in Mac’s I found them in two other places that wanted twice as much found out later they were getting them through Mac’s.

I’ve followed up on the other sources mentioned and have added them to my parts source list.

Right now I’m looking for a source of the windshield channel, will probably end up using sections cut from M series windshield frames.

Bob Carriere 14-03-05 14:54

Nuts.......

Barry....until I get my own copy of the Spaenour catalogue can you send me a scan of the page for the inside door handle or let me know the section and page reference and I can look it up on the web..... I will need two small cast handle for the inside of my cab 11.

Phil....... what part of the windshield channel are you looking for??? the rubber channel that holds the glass or???? your cab 12 has a windshiled that opens my cab 11 doesn't...... but I think I still need some gasket to seal the windowframe to the pipe frame.......

...and now my computer crashed on the weekend.....

Looking for the steel windshield frame

Bob- What I am looking for is the steel frame that holds both the glass and the rubber seal around the frame. I'll be posting some pictures on my website soon.

Just got 8 4x8 sheets of steel including the floor plate to start serious work on the cab. Determined to have truck together for this summers events.

Phil, I remade the windshields for my 12 cab myself.
It is actually quite easy, especially if you have an old junk one for a pattern.
I aquired some NOS M37 windshield frames (easy in the USA) and reworked them.
I discarded the brackets etc from them and cut them up into the proper shape. You will need to make a couple pieces from flatstock for the center piece.
I built a jig on a piece of 3/4" plywood and used woodscrews to secure in place.
Once all the pieces were secured and doublechecked for accuracy against the original, I simply tack welded it together using a TIG
welder.
I had the glass cut and mounted at a local glass shop.
