Juno Beach, Pioneers

1 Attachment(s)
Greetings to you all from the UK. I've uploaded a copy of the war diary of my grandfather's company, 190 coy Pioneer Corps, covering D-Day, which I hope may be of interest. 190 Company landed on Mike sector of Juno Beach as part of No.7 Beach Group. The entry for 6th June reads;

‘Off French coast at approx. 0730 Hrs, LCI offshore till approx. 1400 Hrs when HQ landed and made contact with unit advance beach sections. Exits established by 1600 Hrs. No casualties. HQ established 1500 Hrs- Evening saw enemy air raids, beaches bombed.’

The company stayed at Courseulles-sur-Mer for some weeks, after which the diary makes a number of references to work on the Maple Route with Canadian Engineers. Later on, the company was also involved with the Rhine crossing at Emmerich.

Best wishes- Andy
