Tyabb Airshow

Just returned from an exhausting two days of filming the Tyabb Airshow (I'm making the DVD). There were many air to air shoots planned but all fell through except one where I was in a Yak-52 camera ship and shot a lot of video footage of the "vintage trio" - two Ryans and a Chipmunk. One of the Ryans had the Kinnear radial which I could distinctly hear over the roar of the Yak and slipstream.

Here's one of the stills:

As ever ...

As ever Keith, great photos ... and yikes, those planes look pretty close together and timing is everything for that shot, AND FOR THEM huh? (what a terrible career you have. I feel sorry for you. :p )

:smoker:

Keith, you're a man after my own heart. The first sympton of my "Green Disease" was fascination of everything aeronautical. Since my diagnosis I've sought regular treatments by visiting every air show and aircraft museum within my reach.
I happened across this Aussie WW II recruiting poster while surfing the net, thought you'd like to see it.

Tyabb Air show

I learnt to fly at Tyabb and quite often flew circuits with those aircraft and others from "The Old Aircraft Factory" To have a Harvard roar past you after taking off in a sedate Cessna is quite scary.
Can't wait to see your DVD

The P.& W. R-1340 Wasp is well known as a very loud engine. There was a joke circulating during the war years in the B.C.A.T.P. about a pilot-trainee who asked why it was that no matter how many Harvards flew by, it always seemed to be the same amount of noise. The instructor answered without hesitation, "That's because one Harvard engine makes all the noise there is in the world!"

Harvards

It's interesting to hear the sound of the same engine, but geared, and with a 3 blade prop, as in the Wirraway - totally different without that prop snarl.

There was a Zero replica with a 3 blade prop... sounded more like the Wirraway.

A favourite sound is the Southern Knights performing in 5 Harvards, when all 5 pass low overhead...

Rumblin' Skies over Dallas

The Collings Foundation partnered with the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field in Dallas to present to the public three fabulous warbirds: A B-17, B-24, and a B-25. I've included some pics for all in general and Keith in particular to enjoy. For a modest fee ($450.00) one could get a short flight aboard either of the three aircraft. Next year when My pocketbook can afford it, I'll be taking a ride with my camcorder in hand!

:salute: CHIMO!

1st Pic: B-24 "Witchcraft" Cantcha just feel the rumble in your guts?!?
