Australia Day 2007 Adelaide

Hi gang
The image is from this years Adelaide Australia Day Parade and depicts a 1943 South Australian Railways Carrier #5000 driven and crewed by very good mates of mine. They believe this is the first time a Carrier has been on the Adelaide streets in over 60 years. The other thing of interest is that #5000 is also the Post Code (Zip Code) of Adelaide and the guys were thinking of renaming her "The City of Adelaide".
Proud to be associated - Bob

Bob, henceforth, it shall be known as 'The City of Adelaide', at least on MLU. Seems appropriate somehow. Carry on, there's a good chap.

Aussie day

Thanks Carman! Glad you can celebrate it with us.

This is another good reason to spend some quality time working on the CMP followed by a BBQ with friends.

And on the barbie? Lamb chops for one thing!

Aussies issue Canadian travel warning
Updated at 1:55 PM

Australians taking the advice of their government's "Smart Traveller" website will likely be steering clear of Canada.

That website, which is run by Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, has Canada listed as a country where travellers should "exercise caution," which is the second-safest category.

Apparently our problems stem from the threat of terrorism, heavy snow, ice and forest fires that can erupt "at any time."

British Columbia, in particular, was singled out as being in an active earthquake zone and "subject to avalanches" along with Alberta.

Countries listed on the Smart Traveller website that are considered safer than Canada include Chile, South Korea and Latvia.

Canada's Foreign Affairs website which offers advice to travellers has no official warnings against Australia, and says most Canadian visitors to that country don't have any problems.

Obviously we've been able to keep our floods, bushfires, snakes, sharks, funnel webs and redbacks a secret from the Canuck Government.;)

Perhaps our abundance of CMPs creates overall balance in their eyes.

Vets Dottir 2nd 25-01-08 22:23

Well, EVERYONE should know that our Canadian CMP's you G'Day folks have will protect us Canadian's from all critters and harm while we are there ... (except it can't protect, and has no antidote, for being bit by the CMP bug while visiting Australia, and there ain't no cure for that)

Why the heck is there no CMP icon/smiley in here???

:D

Retaliation Is The Only Awnser

I hearby cancel my planned pilgrimedge to the homestead of Paul "Crocodile Dundee" Hogan, and burn in protest my tickets for the month long "So You Want To Be A Wiggles Roadie" extravaganza.
I will instead visit that Mecca of Canadiana, the Anne Murray Museum just down the road in Springhill NS, and have my picture taken beside the Worlds Largest Easter Egg in Vegerville AB.
That'll teach them a lesson.

Talk about something Aussie to do...

We had a friend over for a BBQ as mentioned before...

We ate outdoors and noticed the two cats taking an interest in something just off the edge of the deck. We had some bird netting there so I got a broom and carefully lifted it away from the interested felines to a clear patch of grass... oh, and our friend just happened to be a herpotologist and was able to assist...

Katie's boyfriend captured the escape of the snake on his camera. Note Swiss Chris' F15 in the background... so this is the calibre of our guardians of CMPs... no wonder we have so many left here!

Here's a still - it's a Brown snake, third most deadly in the world. Jif, weren't you thinking of visiting us again?

Nice to see "The City of Adelaide" out on the road. I last saw 5000 at Kameruka Station in NSW when it was owned by the Foster family and I supplies a couple of road wheels for it. Frank used it to take visitors around the property. Kameruka was a town within the farm. It had it's own Cheese Factory and church, shops and entertainment for the workers. It was set up back in the late 1880's. I think it even had a town clock to summon the workers at knock-off time.I've some photo's of it somewhere but they are packed away at present.

Kameruka Station

Those photos on Kameruka Station would be of interest to me Rick a number of my wifes family worked on the station and in the cheese factory, I think between 1920's to early 1950.
