Q: What kind of hardware holds the guards to the front fender and the step ? I see larger holes with a wire in the center of them on both sides of the steps . What are they for ?

Left side view . It looks to me like 1/4 turn screws were used just like on airplane cowlings . Does anyone have a picture / diagram ?

Dzus fasteners...

your familiarity with aircraft has lead you in the right direction.

The fender holds an assembly of mounting plates that support the female portion of the spring loaded Dzus 1/4 turn lock fastener.

THANK -YOU very much Michael . That answers my question very well . Any chance you have a picture of the proverbial Dzus fastener used ? I looked it up on Goggle and there is a variety .
