Good day,
My grand-Father was an Ambulance Driver in World war 2. He was from Nova Scotia out of Number 6th District, C. A. with the 1st Canadian Motor Ambulance Convoy, RCASC.
Does anybody have any info or links on this group.

Some notes on No. 1 Motor Ambulance Convoy: -

No. 1 Motor Ambulance Convoy, R.C.A.M.C. was called out and placed on active service with the Canadian Active Service Force, mobilizing as Corps Troops with the 2nd Division, C.A.S.F., effective 1 September 1939.

No. 1 Motor Ambulance Convoy, R.C.A.M.C. (Hamilton, Ontario), was mobilized within Military District No. 2 (District HQ - Toronto, Ontario).

Effective 14 January 1943, No. 1 Motor Ambulance Convoy, R.C.A.M.C., became a unit of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and was redesignated No. 1 Motor Ambulance Convoy, R.C.A.S.C.

After having been 'Attested' into the Canadian Army (Active), within Military District No. 6 (District HQ - Halifax, Nova Scotia), he probably was posted to No. 1 Motor Ambulance Convoy, R.C.A.S.C., sometime after January 1943.

The basic organization of a Motor Ambulance Convoy, R.C.A.S.C., was:

- a Headquarters and three ("A", "B" and "C") Platoons, of three sections each, with each Platoon organized as follows:

Platoon Headquarters with: -
- 1x 3 Ton, 4x4, Mobile Kitchen
- 3x 3 Ton, 4x4, General Service
- 2x 5cwt, 4x4, Car (Jeep)

Section - 6x 3 Ton, 4x4, Ambulance (4 berth)
Section - 6x 3 Ton, 4x4, Ambulance (4 berth)
Section - 6x 3 Ton, 4x4, Ambulance (4 berth)

plus each Motor Ambulance Convoy, R.C.A.S.C., had a 'Workshop' Platoon which consisted of a Platoon Headquarters and two Sections, broken down as follows:

Platoon Headquarters with: -
- 1x 3 Ton, 4x4, Office
- 1x 15cwt, 4x4, Battery Charging
- 1x 5cwt, 4x4, Car (Jeep)

Section with: -
- 1x 4 Ton, 6x6, Machinery "M" or 1x 3 Ton, 4x4, Machinery "M" MkII
- 1x 3 Ton, 4x4, Stores
- 1x 3 Ton, 4x4, General Service
- 1x 15cwt, 4x4, General Service

Section with SAME AS ABOVE.

No. 1 Motor Ambulance Convoy, R.C.A.M.C. (later R.C.A.S.C.), once overseas, served in:

- the United Kingdom (Canadian Corps/I Canadian Corps)
- Italy (I Canadian Corps)
- North-West Europe (I Canadian Corps/Headquarters First Canadian Army Troops (Canadian Forces in The Netherlands))

No. 1 Motor Ambulance Convoy, R.C.A.S.C., was disbanded effective 15 November 1945.
