This weeks mystery items
3 Attachment(s)
Can anyone out there identify these two items?
The first is some sort of rotation control for an external component(?) Ignore the flat plate at the top which the mechanism has been cut into for mounting. I haven't had a close enough look to see if the wire out the base is a mechanical cable (for remote operation) or electrical wiring. The second is some sort of traversing mechanism. It appears to have traces of white paint so it's assumed to be AFV related. Russell |
Traversing mech, similar look to Staghound etc I think.
|
The first one appears to be the post for the spotlights as used on many US armoured vehicles, and I think even on the Penguin snowmobile.
|
Agree with all assessments. The traverse controller was a British design by Powered Mountings and was so good it was copied by Oilgear for US vehicles. The US ones have the New Process NP in a gear wheel logo cast in them.

Thanks guys. In the case of the spotlight mount what was normally connected to the end of the cable coming out the bottom of it... or is it just that, it's the power supply into the base?
For the turret traverse, as it was found in New Zealand, it's most likely that it's off a Stewart Tank then as the range of turreted vehicles used over the years has been very limited. |
Not from A Stuart, Cheers Andrew.
|
the traverse mechanism has an outer drum and two brakes shoes locked on until the lever on the grip is squeezed.
|
The traversing mech handle&drum will fit on the Staghound.
