Hi Pieter!

I see that you have a HUP with the 1C7 body there..very interesting indeed!
What's the story behind your vehicle?

I wish you Good Luck to your restoration and I promise to follow your progress very closely!

kostas..

8threcce 05-04-12 00:11

Kostas

Thank you for your reply, how's live in Greece these days, hope your doing ok.

The HUP that I'm restoring is actually a HUM or machinery the other is a HUW I'm told the Machinery is a very rare car only 100 made during the war.
I'm not a specialist in body types maybe you have more information about that for me .

Both cars where stored in Holland for many years, I trade the cars against my just restored Harley WLA.

The HUM that I'm restoring served in Norway and is re-inforced for carrying a snowplow

Hopefully in the next coming days I will be able to take of the Body from the chassis..

Keep you informed.

Regards

Pieter

Ηi Pieter, thanks for your interest, things are going bad to worse here, but we will cope with these, we are tough as a nation. http://modelclub.gr/forums/Smileys/d...on_neutral.gif

Now, I revised in my mind that you have your HUM for sale some time ago. You made the right choice to restore that vehicle, you will not regret it!

Are you intend to scratch-build the rear tool boxes/cabins also?

Not sure yet, I want to keep my options open, but in the mean time I try to collect the little information and photo material there is on the Machinery version.

Photos

I note with interest that you include a series of photographs on Facebook of HUPs used by Agriculture Canada in the 1940s, but you do not give photo credits. Did you get permission to use these photos? If so, they should be properly credited.

Nice work on the HUP by the way...

8threcce 24-07-13 22:40

photo's

Some of the pics are credited but most of them where taken from public sites
just by using google.
Will pay more attention to the crediting, main goal is to introduce my "friends" to a very nice truck

thanks on the restoration your book is of much help .

It seems most of the 13cab Chevs used the same link rods throughout the series, but I don't know if this applies to the C8A. There was a guy in Belgium who broke up one or more CMP's for spares on the GAF website, maybe you wil have luck there.

Don't forget to check the orientation of your shocks, as they seem to be upside down.....or actually upside down and left swapped with right.

good luck,

Alex

working on the tie rod

2 Attachment(s)
I worked on the tie rod today and need some help

See the arrows : when I dissembled the tie rod the ball seat (cup in the middle) had a kind of felt grease retainer, which I cannot find in the manual (second pic)

Also missing was the grease retainer which goes around the spring, ....Is this a critical part?? apparently my HUP drove without them.......

any idea where I might find these parts?

Thanks

Pieter

Seat Covers for C-8

Pieter,

My friend Wade Wettlaufer is an accomplished upholsterer who helped us with the restoration of the Huntsville Legion Bren Carrier. He has also fabricated seat covers, seat and back rest, for my CMP's. Please feel free to contact him directly

No problem on the canvas Richard. If I remember correctly it comes in three colours, green, grey, khaki. Let me know when you need them. An acrylic canvas (boat top material) is also available in a wide variety of colours if anyone is interested.

You are to be recommended for taking on such a rebuild.

Keep up the good work!

Some more metal cutting, I'm almost there....

5 Attachment(s)
I did some sheet metal grinding again this evening and it's coming along very nicely.
It's not easy to mention but I raped the roof of a CMP cab, now if you look at the pictures you know why....
I'm going to use the back end of the roof and put it on the HUP which saves me making those round corners .....hope you forgive me......

Ahhhhh not to mention, always use safety shields when grinding.....I'm wearing a full face shield...and it saved my life, during grinding the disc exploded right in my face....

Ian McCallum 29-10-15 01:09

Rear of 13 cab a good idea

Hi Pieter,

I restored a number of years ago a PUTR which had been cut very similar to your own, just below the waist line meaning a complete rebuild of both frame and skins. Did exactly the same as yourself and used a donor 13 cab roof section for the rear to both save on making the corners and you should be able to just get sufficient length on the roof profile to take it to the rear of the sliding roof section.

Keep up the good work.

Ian
