YOUR DODGE D-15 pictures - wanted!

4 Attachment(s)
Hi everybody

I would like to encourage you to post PICTURES of Dodge D-15s.

1. Wartime or 2. restored and running.

My D-15 is on the road since 2010. Itīs now rebuilt from (postwar Austrian) LH steering to (original) RH steering. Paintwork follows the GO. Only AFTER painting according the GO I found pictures of original D-15s in Italy - and luckily the camo scheme matched;-)

I followed the track of the vehicle:

Build date: 2 10 1943. No: 910 48 555. On the frame I found LIGHT STONE as basic color, but it was overall OD when it arrived in Austria. It came with the 8th Army via Italy. After the British forces left the truck was sold as surplus and used by a local blacksmith until the 1980ies. There I found it in a barn in 2004.

The livery resembles a vehicle of the 8th army, 78th Battleaxe Div. This Scottish division entered Austria from the south and played a role in the infamous massacre of the Cossacks in Carinthia by handing them over to the Soviets. Later it was a main part of the British Occupation Forces in Austria.

The blue marking stands for an engineer battalion.

The truck is very reliable, and I even regularly use it for shopping.

Alright, please go ahead and let me see YOUR pictures.

Cheers, Erwin

How are the CMP rims fitted to what axle????? are they Dodge axles or did you use CMP axles. or did Dodge have their own axles with adapters to allow CMP rims to be used....?

Thanks

The Highland Queen photos are relatively well known. We had a bit of fun re-creating them in between paint jobs this winter.

Sorry no reference for these as I can't remember now were on the web I took them from, may be IWM but I suspect these may be factory photos by Dodge Bros.

On the lgihter side

Peter

How did the ladies keep that "berret" firmly on the back of their heads????

Second question..... seeing you are from the UK and have seen your postings on other site........ I remember reading/seeing somewhere that there was a LRDG "repro" that was made in the UK using the Canadian Dodge axles that accepted the standard CMP rims........ any knowledge of who they were????

curious about their building process.......

If you are thinking about the one that was based on the 30cwt MCP, then that was done probably over 30 years ago now. The chap who did it was Preston Isaacs from North Devon ex MVT Chairman and owner of Cobbaton Military Vehicle Museum.

I think the one in the first picture might be Simons truck in a previous life (?).....here it is at Wings and Wheels in Belgium in 2015. It has to be the D15 that was restored by the late Johan van Rijn.
second pic shows a D15 in Normandy in 2009.....I though it was owned by an Italian member.....but looking at the licence plate it might be British (?).
Last picture shows a Dutch D15 in 2016

I have seen short footage on youtube or similar of a D15 without roof and doors and kitted out like it was to cross the desert.

The D15 uses the standard WD 6.00x16" split rim, so there would be no "building process" to fit these to the Dodge axles?

H.

Here's a D15 Tanker of the 8th Indian Div "somewhere in Italy", note the use of tire chains on the tanker.

Notice the camouflage pattern Erwin, not sure what the base color is on the truck I would hazard a guess at G3 ?? it seem a bit too dense in the photo for Light Stone

Great pics Alex!
Looking atYOUR decapitated bowser with the intentionally installed single windshield like in LRDG vehicles and atHANNOS decapitated GS body there apparently were even more then one customized desert versions!!! I will try and find a 1:35 model illustration of such a desertized D15 I once dug out somewhere. 10+ Years I have been thinking that this was pure fiction. Very exciting!!!

Btw: thank you!! Hanno for your great pics. (And your lively participating in this thread-your infos were already instrumental together with Mike Starmer for my paintwork yrs ago;-)))

Cheers and tot ziens

The 35 and the circle will be in red, it's a maximum road speed marking Erwin, common on early production British trucks and some but not all CMP's it tended not to bee seen on later British and Canadian trucks.

Herīs the drawing of the vehicle I mentioned. Always thought itīs a fantasy.
The pic of the original that Hanno put into this thread is from the former Army Museum. The latter closed years ago I believe and I think parts of it ended up in the Wheatcroft collection in Donington, Derby.
Can anybody confirm this?
If so, the LRDG D-15 could be there as well...
