Silver Creek Steam Show 02Aug08

Gents,

The Silver Creek Steam Show is a go again for this year. The date is Saturday 02Aug08 just north of London, Ontario.

Last year the event had a dozen military vehicles including 3 Carriers, many trucks, AA artillery, a couple of WW2 veterans, and a large display by the Legion. There were 3 light aircraft of the sort used as spotters flying about, and the tracked vehicles scurried about in the fields, woods and small lake on site.

The event has antique cars from the very early teens, steam powered farm equipment, period costumed folks giving displays, antique chainsaw displays, dog agility trials and plenty of miscellaneous fun. Plenty of old timers whose stories make it all worth attending. The event is free to attend and display, and a great lunch and supper are to be had.

The fellow that owns the property, Doug Ovens, puts on the event. The fun starts about noon, so plan to show up after breakfast some time.

Directions:

- north on Hwy. #4 North of London
- west on Hwy.#7
- 3 miles turn right (North) on Neil Side Road
- a mile down on the right is #33310. Look for flags, steam engines, etc.

2009 Silver Creek Steam Show

Ladies and Gents,

The call has come from Doug Ovens to invite all of the HMV folks to come out to the annual Silver Creek Steam Show. Saturday 01August2009.

This event is very low key, and provides a pleasant place to take your stuff for a drive in the woods, and see some old farm stuff and old cars and planes that you otherwise might not. There will be a few local veterans, who really appreciate the rides in the green machines.

Same address as last year, some time after lunch.

See you there! :thup2:

PS - Ilderton Steam Show is Saturday 11July.

(1) Who here is going?

(2) Is there camping onsite or nearby for those of us from fur aw'y?

Stewart Loy 07-07-09 23:55

Good Event

Jif,

I plan to attend, and Perry K. usually gets there with his Carrier also. John Hotson and his 30cwt attend, and Gord Yoe is right around the corner with an iltis (or 27).

I spoke to Mack McEwan and he said he will likley drag his bofors gun out, as he did last Sunday in Goderich.

I forgot to ask Albert if he and Walter will get the FAT out, or the 15cwt that looks so nice with its new canvas tarp.

The last few years they have camped there, but with tow behind campers. Their version of 'primative' and yours may differ ... please call Doug Ovens - he is in the book in Ilderton. Please be advised that he has no answering machine, and farms all day long.

See you there.

Stewart is it just the one day or the whole weekend. Im going to be in Amhersburg that weekend.

p.s. Keep clear of any wooden (actually any kind) of fence posts. They are to remain in the upright position and not under the tracks of a certain **cough** (your) **cough** T-16

Perry Kitson 13-07-09 02:32

Thanks for the heads up Stewart. Barring any catastrophic events, I'll be there with my carrier. Will touch base with Tommy and see if he will be coming with his KL.

And what an outstanding KL it is

I thought that I would put this in here since you mentioned his name...
When I was in London a couple of weeks ago I met Tommy Allen and had a wonderful visit. He is an extraordinary gentleman with an equally extraordinary vehicle.

If you see him please say hi to him for me and Bill M as well.

Tommy is well, but that old Ford ...

... was a bit low on energy. We met up with Tommy 99% of the way to the show at the side of the road with a welding rod and some sandpaper fixing the generator on 1 of the 2 flatheads on his truck. He got it going and headed for his garage for a permanent fix. He likely enjoyed the pleasant weather that day, but missed a nice dinner and dog races!

My wife snapped a picture of the MV gang that was there.

PS - what a nice tarp on Albert's C15a!

Silver Creek 2010

Gents,

Doug Ovens has invited us all over to the annual Silver Creek Steam Show to be held Saturday 07Aug10 at his gravel pit.

Bring your military vehilce and drive it around the picturesque setting, have a hamburger and see a steam thrashing machine, old cars and tractors - and all of your friends from the London area.

A good time is guaranteed - or double your money back!

See you there about noonish.

Call me for details.

Where is that-

in relation to the Kingsville event the week after?

Stewart Loy 07-07-10 12:59

Where is the Show?

The Steam Show is a 20 minute drive North of London, sort of around Ilderton.

If you head north on hwy. 4, turn west at Hwy. 7, then 4 minutes towards the lake. Neill Drive, if I recall correctly.

Silver Creek 2011

Ladies and Gents,

The annual Silver Creek Steam Show is a go again for Saturday August 6, 2011.

The fun starts with a military vehilce parade at 1:00 PM, and will include a superb place to show off your machine to a very appreciative crowd. The venue is perfect for HMV's with varied terrain and courses from mild to wild.

Doug Ovens is our host, and would like to get as many green machines as possible to salute the few WW2 veterans that can still come out from the local area.

Probably the best place to run your Carrier or jeep beside a steam engine!

Lunch and a great dinner are provided, and some cold drinks are usually found on a perfect, sunny day (guaranteed, or twice your money back!).

Directions as above.

See you there!

02Aug14 show date

All,

Doug Ovens called last evening and invited local MV owners to come out to the annual show at his gravel pit north of London.

It is alwyas a good time, and you will see old stuff that you don't see very often - steam powered machinery, old cars, small planes - who knows what this year will display?

See you there.

Stewart

charlie fitton 11-07-14 18:16

Love the concept - what is the date?

Stewart Loy 11-07-14 22:30

Silver Creek Show 02Aug14

Charlie,

The show is Saturday 02Aug14.

You were there years ago - do you remember how to get there?

The Steam Show is a 20 minute drive North of London, sort of around Ilderton.

If you head north on hwy. 4, turn west at Hwy. 7, then 9.4 kilometers towards the lake. Neil Road, if I recall correctly. Number 33310 is 1.3 km up that gravel road. Look up 33310 Neil Road, Lucan, Ontario N0M 2J0 for a Googleview of the property. That water feature is the gravel pit, trails in the woods, etc.

The Ovens boss said:
Parade time is 13:00 hrs
Dinner at 17:00 hrs

No entrance costs or other fees. A donation towards the expenses is appreciated.

Stewart Loy 03-08-14 00:30

Splendid Day with many Carriers

Another great day out at Silver Creek - 3 Carriers, a Mule, and Mutt - along with A&W's FAT and 15CWT. And steam engine, many old tractors, old cars, a half-dozen small aircraft and what is probably the biggest collection of old/huge chains saws in Perth County (if not the world).

Thanks to Doug Ovens again.

Like the Governor of California says "I'll be back", and maybe even stay for supper.
