After watching this amazing depiction of the Battle of the Medak Pocket, fought by LCol Jim Calvin's 2PPCLI, there should be no doubt in anyone's mind just exactly what part the Croats played in the "ethnic cleansing" of the Serbs.

Either through media dis-interest or general Canadian ennui, this first battle fought by Canadian troops since the Korean War went largely unnoticed. It wasn't until some 9 years after the fact did Canada's Governor General give recognition in the form of a GG's Commendation.

Missed the show, darn

I first heard about the Medak Pocket firefight via Scott Taylor's Esprit de Corps Canadian military magazine, but indeed, the mainstream media chose to ignore it, not fitting as it did at the time into Canada's official "we're peacekeepers" mythos.
CBC journo Carol Off has done a decent job of bringing much of this story to light - she has a book "Ghosts of Medak Pocket"

Mark:

Too bad you missed it. Perhaps it will be a re-run.

WRT to Scott Taylor's "Esprit de Corps" magazine, it started out as a freebie on-flight issue to service members going to/from various postings. Then Scott started to upbraid NDHQ, using manila envelopes slid under his door, from disgruntled servicemen, showing scandalous cost over runs, questionable procurement policies and horrible JAG decisions.

Obviously the mag is now "persona non grata" aboard CF flights...because the truth is finally being dug out!!!!...Go figure. Canadian politics...(Sigh) :bang: :remember :support
