US Army Stryker Mobile Gun System

The US Army is going to retire its 105mm 8-wheeled armored (sic) cars. Wasn't this the one Canada tried out too? Not criticizing the decision one way or another, but the question of guns vs missiles, and who supports who comes to mind.

Yes, the Canadian plan was to scrap the Leopards and go with the MGS, and we all saw how that worked out.

The best part about retiring those Canadian Leopards, IMHO, is that the Netherlands decided to get rid of its Leopard 2s “because they are not useful in the kinds of wars we fight these days” — that is: in Afghanistan.* One of the main purchasers was Canada, which promptly sent them to Afghanistan …
* The actual reason for selling off the Leopard 2, of course, was, “We can save money by not having tanks.” |

You are very cynical, hehehehe. Yup, that was the same story here in Canada as DND started hauling Leopards off to the ranges and putting them on display in parks. Of course, in the mad flurry to reimagine the armoured corps, no-one ever mentioned that the MSG had some serious problems that were being overlooked. |
