C15TA engine

Does anyone have left and right hand views, photos or diagrams of the engine type used in C15TA's that they could help me out with.
Thank you to anyone who can help.

cheers
Kevin

Hi Kevin, these are pictures of my Otter engine, which should be the same. I have some more which I can email if you want. James

Presumably they had a longer crank to allow for a double pulley and screened electrics.

They use the 270 GMC engine. It's basically the same as the later 302

I think

The core engine would be absolutely a vanilla GMC 270 - block, head, crank, cam pistons, etc, etc, etc.

About the only major external components that can be messed with would be manifolds, carb, water pump, electrical add-ons, and of course the sump...

Sump ? yes, variety of sumps, early late, angled ( for DUKW hull clearance ) with varying capacities, different dipsticks ( no jokes please ) and stuff like that.

I do have the GMC interchange lists somewhere, showing what parts had to be swapped to make any variety of 270 into any other variety ( like conventional truck engine to cabover, or DUKW, or DUKW back to ordinary truck or the like, but it doesn't mention anything like the TA application.

Engine ID

The best source to check would be the Chev Major Assembly book CMA-01. While not as comprehensive as the Ford Major Assembly manual, the Chev manual should help with specifics on the C15TA engine. I am on the road and unable to check the details.

C15TA engine

I looked in the Chev Major Assembly book. The C15TA engine has a unique part number - 5266460. There is only a reference photo of left side with distinguishing features noted as: fan blade tips square, oil filter mounted at front of cylinder head on left side, generator fan and pulley separate, 6volt generator, no air cleaner on carburetor, equipped with 143 degree thermostat. It is a "second type engine with deep oil pan. WA very extensive charts list dozens of part numbers for individual components.
