Serial number 8709187. Is it possible that is CFR 87 09187?

Looks like a rough terrain trailer, that might go behind an Argo or Supacat type vehicle.

I doubt it will be shredded for scrap metal. That is just too interesting a piece of automotive machinery.

Bombadier ?

That reminds me of a trailer ysed with a Bombadier tracked vehicle used on a powerline project here in the Blue Mountains in the early 1970s

Cheers

Bombardier like bigger diameter single wheels and wide rubber band tracks with grousers. Simple design.

This one's suspension reminds me more of a family of rough terrain tracked dumpers - Morooka. But the data plate says made in US.

Government Surplus Trailer

There is a chance that this trailer is not even a military vehicle but from another government agency.

I think Ed is spot on in his assessment.

A company by the name of ASV designed a vehicle in the 1980's called the Track Truck that was very popular. The two co-owners and designers for this firm were also involved with the creation of Polaris and Arctic Cat snowmobiles. Today, the Track Truck is rapidly becoming a popular collector item and this particular trailer was one of the accessories for the Track Truck, sharing a similar track system with the truck.

The company had some limited interest from the US Military at the time but nothing significant ever developed, so the odds are some department of the Federal Government may have purchased some of these Track Trucks and trailers years ago and this particular trailer is now being disposed of as a surplus item.

The vast majority of reviews of the Track Truck found on line are very positive for its performance back in the day.
