I am looking for period photos showing details of the 15-cwt GS canvas cover.

These photos are from this thread: http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=13402

Who has some better pictures, drawing or patterns, even?

Very interesting

Thanks for bringing this subject up Hanno,

I would like to have one made for my F15 (whenever the day of getting it on the road arrives).

Interesting to note, the one in the manual pictures has straps.

Whereas the other has rope as tie downs.

Is anyone familiar with the strap type and able shed more light on it?

Jordan Baker 30-01-22 07:12

The straps were an early item. They had slots on them that went onto pegs around the box. Later covers just used the rope.

Interesting

Thanks Jordan,

I wonder if the straps were leather ?

Has anyone got other photo's or reproduced the early type?

Thanks Mariano!

Where did you find those pictures? Are they from Clive Law’s CD-ROM with factory photos?

Lynn Eades 31-01-22 09:04

Tony, I'd say they were leather. I have the book and it looks like it is stitched in a rectangular patern with a cross, corner to corner. It looks like there is only one hole in each strap with a long bit after the hole.
The early carriers appear to have had leather straps giving way to rubber and then to webbing. So yes, leather.

This is a Bedford MWT but it shows the leather straps quite well.

Well done

Well I'm convinced !

Leather it is. Thanks Mariano, Adrian and Lynn

We are lucky the old manuals survive and have members willing to share them.
