some questions
 

Hi Guys. I posted these two questions in the thread about the Ford Photos that Clive has so kindly let us look at and as they seem to have become lost in that thread I thought I would ask them again here.

A/ looking at the F60H chassis photos I realised that from the rear of the cab back that the chassis was not only double skinned but that the exterior part of the chassis rail was also deeper then the inner. Was this true on all F60H's or are the photos of a pre-production or very early model?

B/ can anyone explain to me the differences between the Chevrolet early cast axles, as fitted to the early Ford CMP's, and the later, say #13 cab Chevrolet Axles?

I can't answer the first question but the difference between the early and later axles is the center part (ie bango) on the early model is cast as one solid peice and you could only look inside at the gears by removing the third member from the back were as on the later ones the bango has a removable cover on the front that you can remove and check the gears without removing the third member.

Thanks Don. After reading your reply and looking at some photos I can see what you mean. Must have been a big plus for the mechanics when they did the castings with a removeable back plate.
