New movie coming out late summer, Travis Fimmel of Vikings fame plays one of the Anzac soldiers who on that fateful day in August 1966, chased a Vietnamese patrol into the rubber plantation of Long Tan and all hell broke loose

My father in law, Dave Hayward, ex Vietnam, has already published a book (fiction based on fact) called "Danger Close"
It can be found on Amazon. |
You don't realise how many books and movies there are titled "Danger Close" until you actually do an internet search.

That is so very true, there was a great highly stylized documentary about the Battle of Long Tan, with plenty of interviews with the actual soldiers who fought there, hopefully this movie will gain wide release and not be relegated to relative obscurity like other great movies like "The Crater"
|
I hope the movie poster is not an indicator of content: since when does a flat-ish rubber plantation look like an open hill with palms in the background?

Hang on Mike!!! We must stay positive!! Nobody else is offering us a up a Vietnam movie this year so far and especially not an ANZAC Vietnam movie!! Come on movie gods, if not "The Longest Day" or "A Bridge Too Far" At least give us a "Hamburger Hill" !!!

True, and I'm sure it will be instructive.
The producers/directors should be able to get it right: they have had plenty of help from well qualified people from the little I have heard about it. Very interesting short: looking pretty good. Pity the M16 is not an M16A1, but that would just be picky, picky, picky!! Mike |
Movie
Starts today in cinemas.

did you go see it Ryan? Was it awesome?

Wife and I saw this last Friday. A powerful movie. It was a very quite crowd who filed out of the movie. I have had the privilege of working with one of the Kiwi FO party members and the APC Tp Leader was the Commandant of the RAAC School of Armour when I had an exchange posting there so it was great to see there story being told. He told some interesting stories of the battle.

Welcome Paul. Have you read the fiction book called "Danger Close" written by a Kiwi soldier who was there? The book is available at the Waiouru museum.
What part of the country are you in? |

Danger Close is now available on Amazon.
Watched it last night. It follows the historical time line pretty well, and is certainly exciting with some memorable scenes. Just don't take too much notice of all the technical errors. Mike |
