Have looked at a lot of pictures etc, about the "L " number, they were often only on the right side of the hood(bonnet) or door painted.

the following 4 photos were taken in Italy of a Polish unit. The photos are marked with the data base they came from.

I hope they are of interest to you and there was more of them then just these 4.

Be interesting to mark your vehicle as one of these Polish ones as I am picking the markings done this way would be as rare as the vehicle itself :)

many thanks cliff!

Woooooooow!!!!!!!! :salute: is all i can say, well impressed with your research Cliff, many thanks. I am SO tempted now to mark it up as a polish truck after seeing all of these great pictures you've found.

Does anyone have a clearer image/s of those markings and any idea where those pics were taken? Which unit/ group they represent?

thanks again
ben :note:

Can someone help David Firstman? He owns the ex-Budge FWD HAR-1:

Hello, I was browsing through this site and wanted to send some pictures of my restored 1943 HAR-1 powered with Waukesha BZ-320 all original engine and all original wood cargo bed. I need to get measurements and photograph of the coolant system data plate and the truck specification data plates missing on this vehicle. BZ engine parts are difficult to find here in the states. Can you put me in contact with some one who can help me with these two data plates so I can complete the restoration. I will be happy to answer any of your collector's questions concerning parts connections and other details.
This HAR-1 is the only one our clubs here in the US are aware of. I have been working the past 10 months restoring this truck; She was straight and near complete when I purchased her 1-1/2 years ago. Hope these pictures will be of some help to the viewers over there. Thanks! David Firstman

Thanks for helping David, Ben!

Just came across this thread...sorry to resuscitate but there are some nice photos in the new book what I wrote, and have just proof-read for the last time (I hope): being assembled and just assembled mit Sno-go on the front, and there's also a pair of SU-COE shots as well.

Colin from Scotland who is doing an amazing job of restoring this truck which their was very little left of in terms of a project after having been worked hard in a timber mill for 50+ years. The same mill which he works in he also rescued the C15TAA (already known to the forum) from some years earlier.

regards :salute:

End of a story. We“ve seen it on here, from being bought and restored, to being put up for sale: Ben“s FWD HAR-1 4-TON Cargo Truck is for sale on MilWeb: http://www.milweb.net/webverts/46000/

Quote:

FWD HAR-1 4-TON Cargo Truck

Attachment 78002

This truck is probably the rarest surviving american truck of WW2, there only being 2 other original cargo trucks of this type in the world. This particular truck is the only known survivor of British Contract S/M2330 of 1943 which is clearly displayed on the remnants of the original data plates. This truck has undergone a (fully documented)complete 'ground up' restoration over the past 5 years and displays the markings of the first unit of contract S/M2330 which only comprised of 1,664 trucks. These trucks have been documented as seeing extensive use with both British and Polish forces (see Wheels & Tracks No.5 / Sikorski Museum Archives) throughout both Italian and Northern European campaigns.

Clearly a great deal of time and money have been invested by myself into restoring this truck into the remarkable condition it displays today. Every attention to detail during the restoration from the correct type/grade nuts & bolts to the fit of the bespoke canvas-work has been made with this truck. The truck also comes with a complete spares package including spare engines, gearboxes, axles etc.

£15,000.

Not an easy decision!!!

Yep thats right she's up for sale, not an easy :( decision to make and believe me... if it wasn't for the substantial new project i've the 'possible' opportunity to own this truck wouldn't be for sale at all!!!

Don't get me wrong i do have to sell to afford this 'possible new project' but don't really want to sell this truck and although i'd like a new challenge, the thought of never having to see the back of this truck is possibly almost as appealing!!!

Either way:
* if i sell it = great, new challenge....?
* If i don't sell = great, I get to keep the truck I've always wanted to own!

Its not cheap, hopefully nobody will be interested to the tune i'm asking for the FWD and that will have made my decision? :p

regards to you Hanno and everyone,

Ben

Ben,

I understand. Either way, I hope she continues to get the care she deserves after you rescued her from oblivion. A job well done! :thup2:

And if you take on another challenge, we count on you giving us a full account on this forum.

Thanks and keep up the good work.
Hanno

P.S. what happened to that LAAT?

lynx42 03-02-09 08:49

Ben,
There are at least 9 more FWD's over here in OZ.
Three have recently gone to the scrappy.   (Two in South Australia and one that I didn't know about only 100km. from me, late last year. )
I have one, (mine is unrestored), and so does Glen Stones at Swan Reach, Vic. Glens is one of the best restored trucks you'll ever see. Bob Dimer in Western Australia has a fifth wheel on his. He drove it on the "Back to the Track" trip from Alice Springs to Darwin in 1995.
The RAAF used them as tippers during WW2and post-war.
(I had noticed that you stated only 2 in the world in your Milweb advert.)
Good luck with the sale. Pity I can't afford it, as it will take me forever to get mine to equal yours. Are you going to let us in on the possible new purchase????
Regards Rick

Hello
I use google translator so sorry for the translation. I am a hobby and I want to build a model truck FWD HAR1. I'm looking for drawings and other materials to assist in the construction, especially the dimensions of the individual elements. Thank you very much for help.

Dear Markita !

Your problem is that You leave many messages about FWD HAR in many Military Vehicles Forums around the World, but You do not check answers from those Forum's members. You never check those answers !

For example:

I have left the message for You on February 12, 2013 in HMVF Forum:

http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread...d-T969-wrecker

Also I have answered to You in Russian Armourbook Forum - even in Polish language !

But obviously, You did not see these answers...

Thus, I repeat once again:

- Sprawdź moje zawiadomienie o FWD na HMVF Forum (od modello) ! Dostępne są informacje na temat rozmiarow сiężarówki.

Markita2 19-04-13 19:15

I saw your answer, but your content on other trucks. I'm looking for materials for trucks used by the 2nd Polish Corps in Italy.

Engine trouble

G'day gents,
I have become the new owner of the HAR1 restored by the now late Bob Dimer in West Oz. It has had little use since the trip to Alice in 1995 and needs lots of tlc to improve operations. The biggest hurdle is the crankshaft and bearings. The crank is about 8 thou oval and has bad scoring. I haven't been able to find info on the original crank dimensions or much on availability of parts. Any Leeds would be appreciated. Thanks Ric.
P.S. this is the only pic on the pad so far!
