Surviving LAAT register

Hello all :). As I have a particular and long standing interest in LAATs, I often wonder how many have survived, and to this end it would be good to have your input to compile a list with rough locations so we don't have several people reporting the same vehicle. There should be quite a few Fords around, as the UK national bus company used them for recovery work based at depots around the country, several in use until the mid-70s: I've owned three of them, but I don't know what became of them. There are also some un-messed with examples ex French army, one of which is only three miles from me, and a relatively rare Chev version in the Oxford area (and a lovely job you've done of it, K!). What do you think: is it worth having a go, or is it just another one of my crap ideas???

Listing of f60s

Hello

I think it's a good idea to locate all FORD CANADA F60S mainly in EUROPE.
You can add to your futur listing the F60S of the association ASPHM situated near the town of STRASBOURG in FRANCE (more accurate in "LA WANTZENAU").
You can visit their collection using the following link: http://www.asphm.com/vehicules/

I expect that the truck belong to the lastest sale of french army canadian truck in BREST;

Best regards SERGE

Hi Rhett,
Great idea ! . Your totally correct with the Ford versions, in that a number have survived, however, the C 30 (13 cab) Chevy version seems to be a very rare bird, certainly here in England / Europe. I know Rob Fast in Canada has a C30 LAAT, and I know of a cab 12 C30 in Wales, which is in need of rebuild, but apart from that.....
Anyway, attached is a picture of mine taken 4 years ago in France.
Regards
Keith

F-60's in Canada

Hi,

I have an F-60S "Dump" and an F-60S "Derrick". Do they qualify?

Cheers.

Hold on a minute, guys! Whilst I applaud and share your enthusiasm (obsession?) for Canadian military vehicles, I refer you to my thread starter i.e. LAATs. Although it would be wonderful to have a register of ALL surviving CMPs, it would require a very special person to collate the information and present it in an easily referenced and accessible format. So, to reiterate, I'd like to confine it to vehicles originally built as LAATs, whether modified or not, complete or in a state of decay, or even large lumps e.g. chassis and bodies. However, if there are people who are keen to compile a definitive international list of all CMPs, I'll happily stand to one side while you're forming the queue!

Rhett,

I know of four LAAT's here close to home in Holland, two of them for sale. (will post some pics when I have the time) I am sure there is at least a fifth, maybe more in Holland.
In the UK I am positive there are at least two original LAATs fitted with non-standard bodies and an origianl but slightly burnt example our own Nigel Watson has for sale in the for sale section here in MLU.

Ford F60S LAAT

Rhett,

There is a very nice operational Ford F60S LAAT in the Cobbaton Combat Collection, Devon, UK, operated by Preston and Tim Isaac.

This is one of the Ford F60S LAATs in Holland, one of the ex-French Navy reserve ones:

If you are thinking of another one Rhett............? then make it an F60 because you can't have your tyres back.
Cheers,
David.

Are they the 10.50x16 Goodyears marked 1943, Made in Canada, with about 900 miles wear? If so, the F30 was too low geared, anyway. In fact I half expected a conrod (or eight!) to put in an appearance at 40 MPH. Much more relaxed with 11.00x20s, apart from exacerbating the dreadful, non-servo,braking effect. I had a few close calls with that one, and heaving on the handbrake as well didn't seem to help much!

Another LAAT, a Chevrolet C30 in the Netherlands. I think it is ex-Italian Army. It was found in 2010.
