M151 Series MG Mount

Looking for a MG Mount to go on my M151A2 for a display/dewat. Hoping someone here in Canada might have one for sale. Thank you. Rob

In my experience with '74 Jeeps, there was not standard machine gun mount - at least for Canadian vehicles. The M38A1 '67 and '70 Jeeps did have a 7.62 GPMG on the right side wall for the crew commander/passenger. But the in-service roll cage completely interfered with that site for the base.

That said, there was an experiment to try a similar mount on the 74, as I think Rob Love originally posted. Trials do not equal acceptance.

This is the caption I saved for the attached photo (not my original), 'M151A2 CDN 74-09464 imagined GPMG mount from MLU 1'

The CFTO for the installation of the GPMG mount into the M38A1 vehicles mentioned that the mount was tried on the M151A2, but the skin was too thin to support the mount. There is even a photo that has an M151A2, presumably at LETE, with that mount installed.

The M151A2 series usually seemed to be more of an administration vehicle, which really was all a soft skin vehicle should be. We did have the TOW system in a small amount of them, but really that was it. I have not seen a CFTO on installation of anything bigger than a rifle or SMG mount onto these vehicles. (with the exception of the TOW for the airborne).

The only mounts I have ever seen on M151 mutt are typically for the M60 as used on in service vehicles in Vietnam. Of course trucks without ROPS.
I think that’s the only accurate portrayal of a gpmg in service with the mutt.

Yes, as Rob stated C-30-102-000/CJ-004 Installation Instruction GPMG Mount on Truck, Utility, ¼ Ton, 4x4 M38A1CDN2 and CDN3 - Change 1 - 1976 does indeed show a M151A2 with the MG mount installed parked in the background of two of the LETE photographs.

Within the Installation Instruction there is also the Note: This kit has been tried on the M151, 1/4-Ton Truck and found to be unsatisfactory without substantial additional vehicle modification.

Rob D., if you can wait for a couple months I’ll do some checking for you when I’m down in the US to see what guys have done on theirs.
I am attending two of the largest MV events there, one in CA in the next couple weeks and the other in OH in May.

Hi All thank you for the responses. I should have specified from the beginning, the mount I am looking for is an American one. More specifically it is an M151 mount, goes between and just behind the driver and front passenger. Many are available in the USA but cannot be imported here due to ITAR restrictions. So if anyone has one or knows how to get one here legally I would appreciate that. Thank you. Rob
