Canadian C/Broad Arrow Marking

1 Attachment(s)
Does anybody know when the arrow in a circle marking (see attached) replaced the traditional Canadian C/Broad Arrow marking and for how long this new marking remained in use. The marking in the picture is on the lid of the carrying case of an Optical & Film Supply 7x50 binocular reconditioned by C.A.L. in 1952 (the binocular has the same marking but with a X4 instead of X2 below the arrow inside the circle). I also have a type 1951 6x30 green web binocular carrying case dated 1953 with the same marking. Also, does anybody know the meaning of the IS and X2 inscriptions within the circle? This marking, by the way, does not appear on the Elcan 7x50 carrying cases indicating that by the mid-1970’s it was discontinued.

The C broadarrow was officially removed in 48/49, although it was applied when manufacturers followed the drawings for some time yet, right into the late 60s on items like the KFS.
The stylized arrow(or is it a maple leaf...I think it's and arrow) with the inspection services mark came in around 1950 from the equipment that I have seen, and was gone by the early 70s. The alpha/numbers in the stamp are likely the individual inspectors assigned number.

Rob and Paul - Thank you for the information.

Frank
Note that the C /l\ was a property mark, where the later mark you show is an inspection services mark. I wish I had more information on the IS mark....the information I have is purely what I have seen.

I think the C Broad Arrow was used as both a property

and an inspection mark.
