M41 Walker Bulldog pony motor

Hello Guys,

I am trying to find a Ordnance maintenance manual TM 9-1730F
for the auxiliary generator out of a M41 Tank.

The details I have are

Make= GM Detroit Diesel (petrol)
Model= A-41-1 or A141-2
Voltage= 27.5v
Amperage= 300

I think the TM number is correct but it could be TM 9-1739F/TO 19-45-133.

I need any info that I can get on this particular gen set as I am about to restore one, and the torque settings and valve clearances would be very helpful.

I will try to find out more details off the data plate as the engine is not with me at the moment.

Thanks,

Brent Delaney.

There are two resouces that you can try for that TM
CMH Center for Military History ( USA)
US. Nation Archives both are on line and are outstanding
sources.
I recommend you try the later first.If you dont find anything

Gidday Pony soldier,

Thanks for the reply, I will have a looksee at those sites and get back to ya.

We do have a 41 but its a bit sick at the moment, 2006 should see a concentrated effort at getting it home.

I have a photo somewhere, but I will have to dig it out.

I'm flat out scraping paint off the house.
:(

Have a good new year and :cheers: :drunk:

Thanks,

Brent Delaney.

Yeah, 'finishing the house' is part of Keeping The Wife Happy 101... allows us to to accomplish other, more masculine, things. Don't say I said that, though... :eek:

Ponysoldier 31-12-05 01:58

Ah yes the almost impossible Happy Wife 101 class.
of course there is always the typical change of rules.
ahhhhhh Did I say that???? No Geoff did ewwwwwwww
better drink a cold one for pain in the lumps:fry: :cheers:

Great pictures. Looks like you have you hands full
restoring this one. You dont happen to have the
breech assembly for the main gun do you??
Patrick

Brent Delaney 25-03-06 07:56

Gidday Patrick,

Yes there is a breech block available for it, there is approx 80-85%
nos parts that come with the deal so its not all bad sailing.

Paying for the running costs by the time we get it going, well now thats a different story :(

Cheers,

Brent D.

Do you know if the gen set is the same as the gen set in the M5A1..If so I have the manual TM 9 1727 F which has the gen set specs in it..Give me what details you can and I'll check the manual and see if it may not be the same set..

Update on M41

This vehicle is now in Australia and being restored, it arrived in 2017 and restoration begun 2018. The vehicle arrived from NZ in the condition of previous photos minus the track and some suspension components.
