Thank you, Nederlands

You put on a magnificent show of respect for our veterans in Holten today, which I watched on TV early this morning. You humble us with your respect, and for that, I thank you.

Garry... throughout all of this, I kept thinking about Shad's grandad on his motorcycle. I wish he were still here to experience what I've just seen. Methinks he would be suitably impressed. I'll raise a glass in his name today.

Good Show..

Watched the early morning show and was impressed ,as usual..
Amazing to see the vets in such good shape for 80+ year old troops..
We better enjoy them while we can and thank the Dutch for remembering our lads and lassies..
As a young service guy, almost 40 years ago ,my visit to Holland was fabulous..Was treated royally...The people are terrific..
Thanks to the Dutch people..

Remberance Day

Last night at 8:00 Brian, Dirk and I attended the Cenotaph in the small village of Nord Scharwoude to observe Remberance Day in Holland. All church bells ring for a half hour before the service and then there is 2 minutes silence. THe only spoken words in the whole ceremony are by children. After the service to honour their veterans the whole crowd passes in front of the wreaths and proceedes through the town for a reflective quiet walk while the band plays hymns. Then all the flags are raised from 1/2 mast through the country. It is as moving here as it is at home. It was an honour to be present as the Dutch recognize their veterans . Today we will be in a parade in Spakenburg to honour the veterans of WW2, whatever their country.

See Brenda's veteran for the story of a little girl and her Canadian veteran.
