Losses
Looking at the cards , the losses suffered by the RAF were , looking at it from todays perspective , shocking.
Aircraft like slow Blenheims and Whitleys and Hampdens were nothing less than death traps . The early daylight raids on France were almost suicide missions .
I recall a TV doco. A replacement pilot arrived at his Blenheim squadron, ( the elderly veteran was interviewed ) the chap was told " the boys are on a mission " the chap waited and waited, no aircraft returned, the whole squadron was shot down on a daylight raid to France . The TV show was called "Great Military blunders" or similar
