CMP Model Website Created

A website to showcase models of CMP vehicles has been set up Tanks Planes & Things.

Over the last couple of years I have developed a passion for modeling these vehicles. I've built all three of the readily available 1/35 scale kits and am trying to get the courage to start a conversion. Some of that passion has rubbed of on my friend and fellow modeller Rick Forys (owner of the site) who added a sub-site containing my Tamyia Ford and Italeri Chev FATs. From the home page go to Armor, Armor Kits, then CMP Land (Rick's humor).

We'd like this site to become a central repository of CMP models and we openly welcome any submission. Please view the site and feed back comments, and hopefully submissions of your work

Hi Steve:

No disrespect intended, but I could not get your link to come up as posted. I did manage to get to the site, but could not bring up any images.

Maybe our resident site expert, Hanno, can help...
Bill

Seems the link above was to the local host - try this.

I will think about getting some photos of mine to you but I'm afraid you will have trouble competeing with Armorama as I can post photos of all my WW2 truck models there.

Cheers

This is a great idea. I've been researching a model of a CMP C60L 2 Pdr Gun Portee with #12 cab in 1:35th.

The CMP is one of the most awesome vehicles lines I've ever seen. I'm hoping to model a few of them and if my wife allows it, maybe even buy a real one some day.

Good luck on the site, I'll be checking it often and when finished will send images.

Thanks Bob. Yes I have written a few up as articles. I send them to Military Modelcraft International in England for publication. Tony Little the Editor has already published some of the US trucks I have done and has articles for several more waiting to find room.

The last one was on an Aussie Chev fuel tanker based on the Tamiya LRDG Chev kit. I have often thought of my own web site for publishing my articles and model photos too but that is all it is a thought.

Cheers
Cliff :)

Just to add a bit to the thread, I long ago quit modelling but have developed quite a friendship with our mate Cliff.

He could well be the most prolific and "push the envelope" modeller of CMP, MCV and not a few other vehicles out there.

Although not a modeller, I would support with photos, as would others here, a scale model forum devoted to our favourite Canadian vehicles.

And Steve, Keith, I still cannot get either link to work for me.

Cliff, I searched CMP on Armorama and only seen the Cab 11 and Tipper, I think it is called.

Would you have written anything on the CMP's? I'd love to read what you have.

a modeling forum would be a great idea, you never know, might get some modelers buying 1:1 scale!

btw, you would happen to have any good line drawings of CMP's?

-Bob

Try just pasting the address in the first link directly into your browser from the link in the first post.

I also have an Aussie 15cwt and a Australian pattern ambulance conversion. Some of what I have done in models are the MCP Fords and Chevs. The Chev's being based on the Tamiya LRDG Chev kit.

Below is two photos of the Ambulance. I did a full interior in the ambulance body and the decals are homemade ones depicting an Aussie one.

I do have some line drawings of CMP's here mainly British and Canadian versions. PM me your email address and I will find them and email what I have to you.

At the moment I have only finished articles on Allied truck models I have done and also the MCP chev. Others are in the works but not finished.

cheers
Cliff :)

PS> If you go to my photo gallery on Armorama you will see photos of some of my models. Also try the models on display part of Armorama.

There is a page for models on the Canadian Register web-site, I have uploaded pictures of my models but can't get anybody else to !

CMP Page

Great idea-I built both the Chev FAT and C-15. I also have an Italeri jeep with the canvas roof up,a Mark 2 carrier,Sherman "Bomb" although I need a few decals to mark it as Bomb, jeep trailer and the 25 pounder and limber. All my models have Canadian markings. My next project will be the Ford FAT,My wish to do list includes the HUP , HUW and C60L but boy these conversion kits are really expensive. My "I wish it existed" kit would be the C15TA based on the C15 chassis.
By the way Chris and Al.Great models. One thing I learned to do are antennae using straight pieces of thick sprue.Heat the middle till it starts to soften, then pull from both ends-Instant antennae
. :salute:

The problem I think is by just being for models of CMP's restricts it too much. I do a lot of the MCP line of vehicles as well as GMC, Dodge etc from WW2 so I would much prefer a 'SOFTSKINS' forum, similar to the one for real trucks here on MLU forum, where any type of softskin type vehicle is talked about.

Cheers
Cliff :)

bob42100 14-06-06 23:55

I have to agree with Cliff on this as there are only 3 CMP plastic kits out there. I'd also like to discuss conversions off all the softskin kits, well maybe except the kraut stuff :)

btw, Cliff, did you get my email?

Garry Shipton (RIP) 15-06-06 00:08

Hi Cliff not Chris

You have a great site. The problem ia that I've been in twice today and your web takes over my computer.I have to escape and re-boot. :salute:

Steve Freeman 15-06-06 01:35

I've corrected the link in the 1st message of this thread based on Cliff's suggestion. (Thanks, Cliff)

Cliff: Great ambulance photos. As soon as I've finished here I'm going to dig deeper into Armorama's photo galley to find some of your other work.

Alan: nice collection on the Canadian Register.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. Hopefully more will add their comments and links to their work .

model show case

Steve,

I was interested to read on your friend Rick's site that the Tamiya 1/35 scale FAT was in fact nearer to 1/32 Scale! It is a kit I have never built or tried to convert - but no wonder this CMP kit never seems to look right when it is used to make a No 12 Cab for a conversion. Come on you kit manufacturers give us a good No 12 Cab CMP!
