Front Axle Nut Torque

What is the torque for the fron axle shaft nut?
Thanks in advance!

That will depend on the wheel bearing setup. On some setups, the outer nut sets the bearing preload. In that case, you do not wrench the first nut down too tight....you tighten it to the point of getting rid of the freeplay on the bearings and then tighten the locknut.
The later trucks use a spacer and shims between the two bearings to set the preload. In those axles, you can tighten the nuts right down.

Thank you Rob!
This is 1945 truck, with spacer and shims between the two bearings!

If you have the shims right, then you can go tight. I think the manual shows them tightening it with an adjustable wrench. Feel free to use a normal wrench or socket. No need to go to max torque....even 100 pounds will do provided you lock it into place with the second nut and tab washer. These days, Loctite on clean threads would do it as well.
