CGT Identity

I would like to identify the body type on this CGT and an approximate vintage. And how about the E4 number on the door. Anyone know how gun troop vehicles were numbered?

Also what is the gun?

Cheers
Rod

Probably...

One of these, although this is the Ford version.
I can't remember which particular body nomenclature - but they differed in things like a spare tyre carrier on the roof and winterisation. Date is probably 1942-44.
Can't help with the markings though.

Rod, what you are seeing in the forground is the tongue of the limber for the famous 25pdr

"E4" is the No4 gun (and tractor) in E Troop.

The piece in the foreground is indeed a no. 27 limber. Most often found in use with a 25pdr, but as we discovered on another thread the ammunition trays could be replaced to accomodate 17pdr ammo, and possibly other types like 4.5" howitzer.

Registration number

Am I right in thinking that the CH4245834 number on the door means that is in Canadian service?

Cheers
Rod

Yes, CH indicates a tractor in Canadian service.
