I think the submariners got the better deal after the poor jeep had been submerged all that time in salt water!

Not only was the Jeep subjected to immersion in salt water, it would have been submerged to a depth, the pressure of which would guarantee total penetration of every component except maybe the light bulbs.
The Jeep would have reached 'end of life' before the ice cream.
