"We won't surrender"

But, what is written on the side of the carrier?

Name on carrier

Certainly not my specialist subject, but my first thought was that it reads "Antrim", although the spacing between the "n" and the "t" might be a bit problematical. It's a bit difficult to say with that art-deco signwriting.

Is there also a shamrock displayed a the rear ?

The German word 'nicht' means not; Nie (from niemals) means never, so I think that a more accurate translation would be: "We will never surrender!"
