Mike

That is a good read.

Most people don't realise the Hudsons saw more combat than the fighter squadrons. Their losses were pretty appalling because of their low level bombing missions. Unfortunately they do not have the glamour of the fighters.

A must-read book is "Whispering Death" the story of the RAAF in WW2. Mainly in Australia and the Pacific. It is embarrassing as there was not a more dysfunctional or ineptly commanded air force in WW2. One chapter is even entitled "How Not to Run an Air Force"

General George Kenney, the American commander of the allied air forces in this theatre was one of the most outstanding leaders of any service in WW2. He was pulling his hair out regularly trying to sort out disputes between the various Australian Air Marshals while the boys were performing heroic deeds.
