Armoured Car
Hi again Matt - very exciting second photograph being one of the 18 Australian Armoured Cars made. Any more detail, like its name on the back of the photograph. I am also compiling a history on these.

G'day Bob
I assume you mean the one with the group of men looking for the radiator ?? The photo has Greta 1940, writen in pen on the back.. Kind regards Matt |
Re. Armoured Cars
Hi Matt - unfortunately Greta wasn't one of the names. I see on the door it belonged to the 2nd Armoured Regiment. I'll have to dig out my history as to when the 1st and 2nd Armoured Car Regiments changed to the Armoured Regiments.
The list of the 18 armoured cars along with their believed deployment is as follows: LP-1 • DD-220 - Corroboree (Ned Kelly) • 1st Armoured Car Regiment, Horsham, Vic. LP-2 • DD-221 - Billabong • DD-222 - Boomerang • both to the 1st Armoured Car Regiment, Horsham, Vic. However a photograph of Billabong, on exercise in 1940 at Glenfield, NSW, suggests either a joint exercise between the 1st & 2nd A/C Regiments or re-deployment to the 2nd. LP-3 • C-314 - Crow • C-315 - Curlew • C-316 - Cockatoo • C-317 - Stingray • C-318 - Starfish • C-319 - Snake • all believed to the 1st and some later to the 2nd Armoured Car Regiment, Ashfield, NSW. LP-4 • C-6278 - Devil • C-6279 - Dingo • C-6280 - Bandicoot • C-6281 - Porcupine • C-6282 - Possum • C-6283 - Pelican • C-6284 - Wolf • C-6285 - Wattle • C-6286 - Warpath • all believed to the 1st Armoured Car Regiment in Horsham. Boomerang??
Hi Matt - now this is getting real exciting. I couldn't read the AC 222 as Tony did, but given that, and the fact it is a Chevrolet wheel, more or less confirms it is Boomerang. Now cast your mind back to your younger days, did you see Boomerang painted on the side? I would love to see some images of what is left and the burial site. If you can, grab anything that may belong to her. I would certainly treasure the bits. BTW 17 out of the 18 were Ford based with Boomerang being the only Chevrolet based.
EXCITING!! Bob |

Bit Confused
Hi Matt - what with all this excitement about your image, Colin's breathtaking pace with Phoenix and pending Corowa, I merged the thoughts of your image of Boomerang with your buried Armoured Car. Of course we don't which car is buried unless you happen to find Chevrolet wheels. So over to you to identify the car.
Hi Hanno - yes great images. However I am still searching for images of Cockatoo, Stingray, Snake, Dingo, Bandicoot, Pelican, Wolf, Wattle and Warpath. Bob |
Gooodeving Bob
I beleive the wheels still exist on the surface along with some other gadgets. I have your photos printed out and will speak to the chap who originaly got it off the MOD. Kind regards Matt |
