Not sure who they are, Wendel, but the same ID shows up on some wartime British 1937 Pattern web gear.

As per the facebook discussion about this...

MEC on webbing is - Mills Equipment Company (MECo) - AFAIK the Mills Equipment Company only every produced webbing (could be incorrect, but have never seen them associated with anything else to date).

MEC here is MEC Limited, which I assume therefore is a different company.

So, the suggestion is Marconi - but no one has conclusive proof it is them or anyone else yet.

I tried Louis Muelstee's (sp?) epic series on wireless (Wireless for the Warrior) and although the diagrams sometimes have the face plate with MEC Ltd. on them, nowhere I can find does he define who/what this stands for!

Agree it is not Mills ..... but who/what?

According to Wicked-pedia, the company names have been as follows, none of which seems to fit MEC Ltd:

Naming history
1897–1900: The Wireless Telegraph & Signal Company
1900–1963: Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Company
1963–1987: Marconi Company Ltd
1987–1998: GEC-Marconi Ltd
1998–1999: Marconi Electronic Systems Ltd
1999–2003: Marconi plc
2003–2006: Marconi Corporation plc

thanks for your help. At his time it's a complet mystery.

David Dunlop 24-07-19 15:56

Any clues inside the set, Wendel? Parts with a full name, or the same ID? Usually, companies involved in wireless manufacture are already involved in the industry in some capacity.
