C15 4x2 emergency brake cables

I'm looking for a set of two e-brake / handbrake cables for my Chevrolet C15 4x2 15-cwt truck.

Part no. is *1799285

The cables are approximately 92.5 cm (36.4") in length.

Can anyone help?

Cables

Those cables look very similar to the C8 hand brake cables. I found two NOS cables for a late nineteen thirties (spell checker) light commercial Chevy that fitted the C8 perfectly.

Maybe you could have a look on the Chevy parts web sites - Jim Carter and the others - Chevs of the 40s

This is similar , might be possible to shorten it to suit the C15

If the cable above is otherwise (except for length) suitable, look for a company that manufactures control cables. When I wanted to shorten cables for the 15 cwt CMP trailer I used Aircraft Spruce https://www.aircraftspruce.com/categ.../controls.html and they were able to cut the existing cable assembly to the length I specified and swage a new ball onto the end. Naturally, if you can find a closer supplier the shipping won't hurt as much. Nothing done to aviation standards is cheap but....

Hanno,

Have you checked this thread?

I can bring the ones I bought on Ebay and compare it with your originals so see if they would be the proper length for your C15.....than at least you know what to look out for.

Thanks Mike, Grant & Alex for the replies.

I am hoping to find a set of NOS cables, they must be on someones shelve somewhere?

I have searched at some of the listed suppliers but not found a suitable one yet.

If all fails, I will have to have a set made or adapted, possibly reusing some of the components.

I recently found a sail maker (Yacht rigging manufacturer) that can make up brake cables. The do have some ends, just not the special components. That means they can crimp the cable ends to a standard. They stock long stainless UNF threaded ends and the inner cable. This approach may not be what Hanno seeks, but may help other people.

I was about to have a set made when Jaap Rietveld found me a set in his stock. They are a wee bit longer than the originals but have the correct ends so they will work.

He has more so contact Jaap if you need any: https://www.milweb.net/go/rietveld/
