Our election

Last Saturday we held our Federal election and I couldn't resist taking this shot in a little country town polling booth:

http://www.oldcmp.net/Images/misc/molesworth.jpg

The two chaps out the front in the deck chairs were representing opposing parties, but were spending a happy afternoon chatting together.

Many polling booths have the mothers clubs cooking sausages for the hungry voters, and whichever way you vote, I was reflecting on how fortunate we are to live in a place where the sausage sizzle is more powerful than the sub machine gun.

Incidentally, for you Canucks, the Liberal Coalition was returned to Government. Contrary to your situation, the Liberals here are the Conservatives.

Keefy's elections

An Australian and a Chinese man are discussing politics.

Says the Australian:
"Democracy is great, we have elections every three years!".

To which the Chinese reacts surprised:
"Evely foul yeals? We have elections evely day!"

Sorry Keef, could not resist it :D

A fourth term, wow! Will you guys keep John Howard on until he retires?

H.

Yes, this will be his last term - the opposition have been using that against him for years saying he won't finish his term.
On the whole the election process this time has been of big money promises from both sides due to a budget surplus.
As a producer of TV ads, my observation is the recent crop of political ads has been universally pathetically uncreative.
Howard won comfortably.

It would be good to see that happening in this country next year

Keith,

You may not be aware, but the oppostion leader here, is the same surname. Anythings better than the muppets in charge of the asylum at present

Keith Webb 13-10-04 23:06

Same surname?

That's quite amazing! More power to him then.

BTW, it's interesting to see how most people on this foru lean to the right, or is it just that the lefties keep mum about it?

Hey, steady now.
Waldorf and Statler could do it. Apart from that, you're dead right.

Now what does that tell us by way of the sort of people gathered here I wonder. . . . . . . . . . ;)

Lean right? As in a bit further right than Attila the Hun perhaps?

Couldn't resist the picture seeing as how you mentioned "mum".

:D

Yup, they're everywhere! I Googled "Squander bug" and got loads. Fascinating bits of history.

right leaning forum users

Matbe lumbering down the road in a large green/brown former military vehicle may not be the image the politically correct left leaning do-gooders want to have.

Leaning left

Not at all related to this subject, but some time ago I was speaking to a Vietnam War Armoured Corps vet, talking about all manner of things. We got around to the physical size of tank crewmen (The Aussies took the Centurion to Vietnam) and he commented that you could always pick the driver in any crew as his left thigh was built like Arnold Schwarzenegger and an inch shorter than his right from the weighty pressure of the clutch pedal. No doubt they were left leaning!
