235 timing ?
 

Am about to fire up the 235 motor in my restoration at last :D but before I do I have a question.
I have replaced the old HT wires along with new spark plugs condensor and points plus a new coil and have set timing as per the 1955 shop manual. Now it occurs to me that because the bellhousing is different IE being for right hand drive this will mess up my attempt to get the timing correct ?
Should I just try to start the beast and the rotate the dizzy untill it runs nicely ?
Any help much appreciated.

Timing point should be correct
 

Just confirm that when the pointer is on the "dot" that the number one cylinder is at top dead center. I’ve swapped bell housing, flywheels and this is the best confirmation

You also might want to consider doing what I did which is to put a second timing mark on the back of the flywheel so that you can time the engine through the window on the back of the bell housing. This is a much handier place to check the timing. What I do while the head is off I confirm that the ball is on the timing mark at top dead center. Then with the ball on the timing mark I put a small “O” with a punch set on the back of the flywheel so that it lies under the wire marker see picture, then rotate the crank until the engine is on the advanced mark and put a “l” on the flywheel. Just remember which side of the screws to put your marker wire.

Nice for the test bed.....BUT..... how do you gain ready access to that small windon in the bellhousing when the &&^&%$@* engine cover is in place...????

Can we revert to creating a timing tab on the cam gear cover by the front pulley and how accessible with a timing light when the whole cab is re-installed........

I think I will have mine computer controlled or use remote sensing devices.....

Sorry Bob this works best on the Pattern 13 Chevy. But then again which panel do you have to remove first on a Pattern 11 or 12 to get at he engine? Rear panel?
