Sexton SP gun
The 25-pounder SP gun on the Ram Chassis – the Sexton – was used by three Canadian artillery regiments overseas during the Second World War – 8th Field, 19th Field and 23rd Field. Post-war, the SP tradition was presumably kept alive in several militia batteries. In 1956, we still had 31 Sextons with 12 on issue: 6 in central command, 4 in prairie command, and 2 in western command. On the basis of two guns per militia battery – and presumably 2-4 at the school in Shilo, this translates to about 3-4 Sexton batteries.
Does anyone know what RCA batteries were equipped with the Sexton post war? “The Gunners of Canada” is silent on the subject. |
