New Carrier engine

Just been on the live link to the auction of parts from the Littlefield Collection. A brand new, in the crate Ford V8 Carrier engine went for US$3,000
Someone was lucky

Really?

I will be quite interested to see what the buyer actually purchased. If it was the engine in the Littlefield catalogue, identified by them initially as a carrier engine... Well :note: we learn something new every day.

Early on they identified the engine as a Bren Carrier engine. That description appears in the printed catalogue I received. Was the description subsequently changed on-line to read : Ford Flathead V-8? Looking at single pulley water pumps, atypical fan blades, single cartridge oil conditioner/filter, wiring looms, water necks forward on the heads, and the truck style exhaust manifolds.

Update: the on-line description retains the wording 'Bren Carrier'.
How misleading is that? Buyer beware.

Not that there is anything wrong with the French blocks, nothing at all!

Just had a closer look at the photos on the auction website. Vertical distributor and a rather modern engine container, I think this is an ex-French army unit for a SUMB truck, a Simca built version of the Ford V8.

I saw that too. the buyer should have done his homework

It's also quite possible the buyer knew exactly what he was getting. Bare French blocks sell for $3000 in the US, so if this is a complete French flathead it's a real bargain.
