1940 c15a SOLD

5 Attachment(s)
Cab 11 Chevrolet more or less complete and unmodified (minus passenger side fuel tank and box). Tires dated 1941 and worn out of course! Still, a good candidate for restoration. Includes 4 extra tires and 1 spare rim and and an engine 'dog house' from a 1942 model. The ownership is registered in the Province of Ontario, Serial # 0844413940. Stored under cover for the past 25 years. The engine was rebuilt in the late 1980s as a project by a high school auto shop student, even though the vehicle was fully operational before the engine was disassembled!! Engine wear was reported as minimal, however the piston rings were replaced along with crank bearings and the valves were lapped before reassembly. That is as far as the project went! The engine has not run since and is not turning over now. I have recently put penetrating oil down the cylinders to help to free things up. Brake lines are rusted out and one rear wheel brake is stuck on, otherwise it is in reasonable shape...even comes with the original key. It is located in the bush between Kirkland Lake and Timmins Ontario. I will have it towed to the side of an all weather road for pick up. I look forward to meeting the new owner who finds this to his or her liking at a price of $2500. If you are reading this ad then it is still available. Exceptional find......

....and execptionaly complete.

Sadly Tool box is missing but more importantly the registration tags would have been affixed on the original sheet metal panels of the engine cover. The replacement engine cover is for a cab 13 I beleive and will not fit at all.
Whomever the new owner is he will do well to sign up on MLU for assistance.

Rare to find them like that East of the Manitoba border..... Out West they are somewhat easier to find but pushing it all the way home East is costly.

Cheers

Bob

Yes, you are correct the tool box is missing and the dog house may not be a fit! Perhaps the new owner may be able to swap it for the correct one. It is unfortunate that the original brass identification plate is also missing but at least the ownership does document the original serial number for the vehicle. A reproduction plate is certainly an option. Considering it has been around for 74 years it is amazing that it is so complete and in relatively decent shape. Most of the CMPs in northern Ontario were used in the logging and pulpwood industry and were severely abused. This one is an exception. I was told by a previous owner that it had been a on board a Canadian Naval vessel until the 1960s and used as a runabout when in port ( I can't confirm this). As a civilian vehicle it was just used for basic transportation in rural northern Ontario!

I believe that I have an original Chevrolet data plate that would be correct for this vehicle. If memory serves, they were square and quite large on the 11 cab trucks.

I just spotted one a half hour ago hiding in my gunroom of all places. The one I found is for a truck in the 1100 serial range.

CMP for sale

Hi
I think it is still for sale,
do you think this is a good deal ?
What kind of rear box was there ?
What really is the model ?

I am looking for a CMP project. in Ontario or Quebec. :giveup

Thanks
Michel

Bruce Howes 20-12-14 22:06

Thanks for the inquiry. Yes it is still for sale but is snowed in for the winter I expect! Available next spring. I have had numerous offers up to 4/5ths of the asking price but all of them were interested in building a modified bush buggy out of it so far! I am patiently waiting for a buyer who will commit to restoring the truck and am prepared to wait it out. According to the serial number I believe it originally had a general purpose box. You can private message me Michel, if you have questions.

Seasons Greetings, Bruce
