I did, hence merged thread.

Thanks for sharing. These desert scenes with vehicles in sand camouflage are always interesting to see.

New Zealand War Diaries- On N. Africa Convoys

Hi All

A number of years ago I was browsing through the New Zealand War Diaries there was a group of reports that talked about vehicle convoys across North Africa.

Had some very good descriptions of driving at night under black out conditions. Like that no matter what you followed the vehicle ahead even if it left the trail or road. In one case it talks about a convoy driving of the edge of and escarpment each following the vehicle ahead, fortunately the spot was just steep and not a cliff and all the vehicle made the bottom.

Another interesting comment was that nobody like to follow a gun or artillery piece, at night, because the only warning that you were to close as the muzzle coming through the windscreen.

When I found the War Diaries it was shortly before the earthquake Christchurch earthquake in 2011, afterwards I was never able to find the War Diaries again.

After seeing this video I'll have to go looking.

Cheers Phil

Еxcellent footage, to me the most interesting was that Ford cab 12 with Chevrolet stamped grille mesh at 0:15.

BTW, this one is no less interesting:

I think they should have done the staged explosions in the background as they stopped and brewed up for a cup of tea.

That grille is not specific to Chevrolets, but was fitted at the Ford factory as well. The opposite also applies to Chevrolets, cab 12's were fitted with square mesh as well as Diamond mesh.
Some trucks even left the production line with the upper grill part in square mesh and the lower with diagonal/diamond mesh.

Here’s an example on an Indian Pattern Chevrolet C15 Cab 12 CMP.

Hello All,

What are the vehicles that come on the screen a 0:46? Are they very - very stripped down "Monkey Face" CMPs? They look more like a trailer with a drive train than they do a specific brand of motor vehicle.

Kind regards
Lionel

Hello Lionel,

They are Portee trucks.

They appear to be 4x4 portee vehicles, most likely 2pdr. Some are without the gun. Guy Quad derivative perhaps?
