I think these vehicles were of the platoon of armoured cars that were part of the Montreal Regiment, who in turn, were designated as the Defense Battalion of First Canadian Army Headquarters?
Looks to be initially equipped with the Humber Armoured Car, followed by an upgrade to the Daimler Mk.I? Attachment 109629 Attachment 109630 Attachment 109631 No luck finding any WD numbers, but would be great to see any kind of info about these ... regards, Jack |
Armoured Cars
Jack:
This actually dovetails with the timing of the changeover from Humbers to Daimler Mk.Is and IIs in the recce regiments of 2nd and 3rd Divs in the early fall of 44. |

Do you have any census numbers of the Humbers used by the Canadians in the UK? regards, Richard |

In the 10k plus pages I've looked at so far from the Heritage Canada War files,
have come across only one armoured Car WD number, and looks to be dated just prior to the Normandy operation - CF210089. Other than the named three crew members no type description, but someone out there likely can identify it just by seeing that census number. http://heritage.canadiana.ca/view/oo...91/629?r=1&s=4 Attachment 109894 --------------------------- Seems Crerar also had an armoured car escort consisting of three vehicles - separate from the HQ Defence Company? http://heritage.canadiana.ca/view/oo...1/1097?r=0&s=2 Attachment 109895 regards, Jack |
