Marconi GP-15 radio
 

I picked up a small pile of 19 sets yesterdfay, and included with the bunch was a wireless set by Marconi numbered 86700-B-GP-15. I don't think it's military but then again I'm not a radio guy. A search of the net only produced one photo of the subject radio here : http://www.jproc.ca/marconi/gp15.html


I'll get a shot of this one later today when I am back in the shed putting things away. Anyone with any info on these radios?

Looking at the link given, it appears to be an HF transceiver covering 4 - 10 MHz (unless there's a second frequency range obscured by the rust and knobs).

Switch settings are "Norm" and "XTAL", possibly twice, and the option of speaker or headphones.

No idea what it's for, but the AC mains or battery operation might make it an "official" set of some kind - for base station or vehicle operation?

I'm just guessing, though.

This one has battery cables coming off it, although I don't know the voltage.
I have no interest in it. I'll have to find a ham radio guy who likes old equipment.

Much better photos Rob. It covers 1.6 - 10 MHz. It appears to be a general purpose ( hence GP ?) transmitter - receiver.

I found the following quote "During a discussion on the matter of purchasing two-way radios for the B.C. Parks with Mr. Smart last fall, it was suggested to obtain, if possible, 2 Marconi GP-15 and 2 Marconi PF-1 sets, one of each model for Yoho and Glacier parks. In Glacier, where it was intended to use one GP-15 at a permanent station, it is suggested that in view of the heavy battery drain, coupled with the difficulty of charging batteries at this point (a wind charger would be of little value) that the GP-15 be substituted for a PF-1, making two of this model required for Glacier National Park. "
