12v Windscreen Wipers
 

Hi All
A contact of mine is looking for the above, motor, arms, blades and whatever for his Chevrolet Blitz.

I would suggest Vintage Power Wagon...... they have electric replacements for vacuum wipers for Dodges PW and M37 which are somewhat similar to the wipers on CMP......

Seems the aftermarket wipers are an adaptation of wipers fitted to motor boats.... 12v and single arm......

I used 12v motors and blades sold by Marathon Spares in Tamworth. Meant for a MB or GPW Jeep, but looks the same. I fed some black fuel line over the cable to give the impression of a vacuum lines. If you aren't looking for absolute reproduction, this looks the part.

Try looking at a boat and marine supplies, They have a wide range including good quality units.
I bought a cheep black plastic one and the gears inside stripped in no time.
We don't need wipers around here anymore!

50 mph on the Interstate in the pouring rain. Just used RAINX on the windshield inside and out.

can I assume Rainx is a spray you apply to the windsceen? I have not heard of it. I can remember my father telling me of wiping a cut potato over the windscreen of an old truck, with a broken wiper, to get the water to bead and run off making it possible to see.

Rainex is available at most auto stores. Try Autopro!


It goes under the military term of Rain Repellant RRII, (yep is has a NATO stock number too!) It is alcohol and silicone mixed together, you rub it on a windscreen to allow it to dry.... water then beads off. It is great stuff. I have used it for about 12 years on all my vehicles..

There is another product which is less effective, but claims to be the same.. It aint! ie. don't buy it!

Hi Grant

It is a liquid that you rub on works great to makes the water bead up and run off. As it is a silicon product you do have to be careful with getting it on the paint work. Will cause problems when are you repainting if you don’t clean the paint work well.

Vintage power wagon has them for sale at $135 US on page 34 of their catalogue...... but does not seem to be of similar quality.

How much ice and snow would you get in Aussie land????

Alot of North American and Japanese SUV or 4x4 vehicles have a rear window single wiper....... they have to be pretty small to fit the confined space of the rear deck..... wonder what a recycling yard might have...... that's the new politically correct terminology for "Junk Yard"....

Maybe you don't need wipers after all..... isn't that why the windshield windows open us????? ... when I was younger we use to drive around in Dodge M37 during storms and pull people out at $2.oo a crack...... driving with no heat.... windshield open wearing Snomobile suits...... and loving it!!!!!

Now I watch the storms on TV while sucking on a chilled Bailey!!
