Palestinian gun-trucks

Hello.
Please help identify cars. The photos were taken in Palestine, in the late 30s. |
Transjordan Frontier Force
I believe these are Transjordan Frontier Force vehicles. Either Morris-Commercial or Commer truck, I do not have my references at hand at the moment.
|
The file name for the first photo might suggest a Saurer truck, but Saurer's radiator crest seems to have been round rather than the winged shape shown in the photos - so I have doubts about this suggestion.

TJFF on the truck side: Trans Jordan Frontier Force.
Odd looking mount with a Vickers MMG, the forward protrusion appears to be for preventing the weapon being depressed too far and shooting up their own vehicle. It corresponds with the rail across the body. Rifles in the rack are SMLE .303 No.1 Mk.3*. All very British. Hotel Fast .... Fast what? Service?? Mike |

It is possible that the unknown car in the photo is Crossley. The front suspension has the same pneumatic cylinders as on the Crossley model IGL3.

These photos were discussed in different places quite often. This is not Crossley or Albion. As a result of those discussions, it turned out, that this is the military version of 1934 Commer "Raider" B30 truck (see Hanno Spoelstra reply above). The front spring is just a spare spring (obviously, since the vehicle was of civilian origin, some of its parts were weaker, than if the vehicle was originally designed as a military one). |
