Chevrolet C30 Cab 13

As you may know, I have a soft spot for oddball CMPs looking for a good home. Now here is one of them:
What we know is that this is a Dec. 1942 Cab 13 Chevrolet C30. It was used by the Danish Civil Defence force until at least the 1970s when it was auctioned off and went to a museum. It ended up in the hands of a dealer in Belgium and was then sold to Daniel Daubresse in Belgium. Daniel is now offering it for sale, contact him by email if you are interested to buy it. Quote:
I've bounced this off Niels Vegger and Alex van de Wetering, let's see what you can make of it as what it really is. Attachment 111244 Attachment 111245 Attachment 111247 Attachment 111246 Attachment 111248 |

From what I have been able to trace, this was originally a C30 Ambulance, with 3G2 body. These where bought and used by the Civilian Defense.
Some time in the late fifties, the box ambulance body was removed, and they where converted to so called "line body", sort of GS style body. It remained in service/depot until the 70ties, then sold to a car museum and then on to a car dealer and from here exported from Denmark. |
Af first I think this truck was advertised as a C60, but we have since found out it is in fact a C30 with 20inch wheels fitted. However, this might be the right place to discuss the following....
I question if there ever were any C60S LAATs produced; I think Bill Gregg does mention them in his publications, but I haven't seen any in period pictures so far. So my theory is that LAATs were only built as F30, C30 and F60S....and the latter might not have seen active service in NWE before the end of the war (also based on the lack of period pictures, the fact that several were sold post-war with very low mileage and original paint.... and a comment made earlier by Richard Farrant.) Any ideas on this? It does look like a nice project....but if one was to rebuilld it as a C30 LAAT, it would require some somewhat hard to find bits like 16inch wheels and matching 10.50-16 tyres, a winch, fairleads for front and rear. Apart from the missing sheet metal pieces in the back of course. Finding an ambulance body however, might even be harder! Alex |
Thanks Niels
