Just my contribution to the further preservation of our little niche in our cultural heritage.

Re. our discussion of switches the other day, I'll be sending you some samples for you to identify and source the modern day equivalents. That way I can fully complete a panel.

Plushy Panel

Hi James
Biggest problem I have been having is obtaining Ford speedometers that are recoverable. The instruments in the panel I received from you were totally RS so I'm scratch building one. I've just finished three panels that took far too long due to the speedometer problems, i.e 5 months in diesel to free the two drives. However I've managed to obtain a few NOS gauges, at a price, so in most cases panels I build from now will contain those as opposed to refurbished second hand ones.

Ok thanks for the update i have three more dashes here for you ,they are all soaking in diesel to help get them ready for you.

Do you know how many parts in the dashes would be made from alloy ? i have a large tank of molasses for derusting parts and i am tempted to but a dash in but molasses eats alloy parts .

AAAGGGHHH

James
DON'T soak the dashes in diesel especially if they contain the instruments. I remove all the instruments and then split the panel and electrolysis derust the componants. The only diesel soaking I do is the stripped speedometer to free the needle and odometer drives. The only use diesel would be on instruments is if you wanted to burn them.

Molasses derusting is more useful for getting into areas such as frozen hinges or threaded things and the such like, whereas electrolysis derusting is for surface areas as an alternative to sand blasting or sanding.
