United Kingdom Members - supplier does not ship internationally

Hello British members of MLU,

I have come across a nice set of new "cranked" Whitworth King Dick Ring spanners that I am interested in buying. Unfortunately the retailer does not post internationally. Could someone in the United Kingdom act on my behalf to have the spanners sent to your place and then we could work out the purchase price the cost of all the handling and postage rates to Australia? I would not see people face any personal out of pocket expenses during the process as I would pay in advance.

I have contacted the retailer to see if they would make an exemption for me - who knows I might be lucky.

Please PM me.

Kind Regards
Lionel

Is there anybody out there .... there ... there

Hello All,

I am wondering if there is anyone in the UK who could buy these or similar King Dick Whitworth Spanners on my behalf and then be paid the cost of all postage and handling to Australia?

King Dick Whitworth 1/8"- 9/16"W 4 Piece Ring Wrench Set.

Kind Regards

Not available over there mate?? Sure a tool specialist can help! Plenty of people here who would oblige but I'm sure you can locate locally, ie, OZ!!

If you are talking about the ratcheting whitworth spanner sets, then try Lawson-HIS. I'm sure they ship internationally and last time I looked they were cheaper than the ebay seller with them.

If you get stuck then PM me.

Ah, guessing it's this one you meant. Hope that helps anyway.

If the plan to buy in the UK and ship to Oz fails, have you looked at US sources? One seller on eBay US http://www.ebay.com/itm/KING-DICK-UK...98b5c3&vxp=mtr has a variety of Whitworth / British tools. They also have a web site http://www.britishfasteners.com/ with even more choice. I don't have any experience to be able to advise either for or against. I didn't see a clear statement on shipping outside the US on the site.

Thank You

Hello All,

Thank you for your replies it is much appreciated. A special thanks to Lauren and the link to Lawson-His retailer. I have sent them an email requesting freight costs to Australia.

Yes, there is an Australian supplier of King Dick tools in Queensland and I have contacted them.

It all depends on whether they follow the line that any part from the UK seems to automatically attract a doubling or tripling of their value because they were "imported".

Being a Land Rover restoration addict I have learnt from first hand experience that it is usually better to buy parts from the UK and have them posted over. Normally the parts arrive more promptly at your door for a greatly reduced price compared to the cost and time it takes for deliveries from local - Australian parts suppliers.

I am actually after the 4 piece set of King Dick TKR 4W Ring Spanner / Wrench Set 4 Piece Whitworth Ring Spanner - Offset. http://www.lawson-his.co.uk/king-dic...ch-set--p45231

Kind Regards

Local Supplier

Hello All,

I had some quotes back from the UK, Australia and the USA today. I am surprised that the Australian supplier is the most economical to my door.

The big killer is freight charges. Apparently the Australian supplier predominantly stock King Dick's range of Construction Wrenches which includes their Podgers and Slogging Rings shipped by the container load, so throwing in a set of spanners into the mix for me makes my tools more viable.

Kind Regards
Lionel

King Dick Spanner Set Sorted and On the Way

Hello Lauren and other Respondents,

Thank you Lauren for the link to that company. They are the ones I am getting the spanners from.

After much time comparing prices I decided on a UK non-eBay based company to get the spanners from. The comparison included the Australian supplier of King Dick Tools who are based in Queensland. Plus some USA based suppliers too. Yes it was dearer to get the spanners from the Australian supplier of the UK made tools . :bang:

It turns out that it would cost me more for postage than the value of the 4 piece set of 4 Deep Offset King Dick Whitworth Spanners. I asked the supplier if the quoted amount for "carriage" would be the same for the 7 piece spanner set as the 4 piece, and luckily it was. So I ordered the 7 piece set.

At least now I have paid more for the spanners that I can use over the ensuing years any time I want to and they are worth more than the one off cost of getting the spanners sent to me .

For some reason the thought of paying more money for postage - "carriage" than the value of the goods being sent to me from overseas really irks me.

So in a couple of weeks I should be able to have some new toys to play with :)

Kind Regards
Lionel

Lionel,

Being a Land Rover addict I am wondering if you have a few spare bits and prices. I am chasing a rear left galvanised body corner trim for a series 2/3 and a pair of army tail light guards, and a set of usable tail lights.

G'day Jack,

Could I suggest that you join http://remlr.com/forum which is the Register of Military Land Rovers and post in their parts wanted section. The other option is http://www.aulro.com which is Australian Land Rover Owners forum. Both are free to register into and each have parts wanted sections.

I need to get a couple of my Land Rovers on the road before I can work out what will be surplus parts. At the moment I am hanging on to everything I have.

The Series 2A have the tail light guards and I only have Series 3 Land Rovers.

Lots of parts like tail lights can be bought off eBay too. I needed to buy all new indicator and brake light sets because the previous owners had a mismatch of all different shapes and sizes over the years plus a tail gate that used to like swing down and break the lenses. The new replacement light units have plastic instead of metal backing plates which do not corrode like the original parts did.

Kind Regards
Lionel

King Dick Rings are on their way

Hello All MLU People,

I received an email this morning saying that my King Dick set of 7 deep offset (Cranked) Whitworth spanners are on their way!

It sure has been one long drawn out process. At least I know where to get my next lot of tools out of the UK from. :)

Again a special thanks to Lauren for posting the link to Lawson-His retailer.

They are a great company to business with and they communicated very promptly to my enquires, especially Kim Matthews who always answered my emails.

Kind Regards
Lionel
