Helmet

A friend has this German helmet he bought in Holland in 1964... he's thinking of selling it on e-pay... he is aware of it's value. I thought it should be offered here first to see if anyone's interested... just PM me and I'll put you in touch. I have no financial interest.

The helmet is as you can see in quite good nick - even still has the leather internals and chin strap. It's located in Melbourne, Aussie.

Originating from Holland, I would have an interest provided there's a story behind it. But I'm sure my interest cannot be translated into the offers he is likely to get on ebay from a German helmet collector or reenactor :(

Story

I'll ask where he bought it.. I know it was from a fleamarket... but no history as far as I know.

German helmet

Hi Keith,
Just spotted the photo on your thread,so I turned around here in my den and looked at my helmet up on my shelf beside my WW2 Canadian helmet.I have the same helmet and liner and it's a heavy sucker compared with the Canadian one..Mine is camo,a dark green interspersed with a dark sand.My father also picked this one up(off the ground)in Holland in the early part of 1945.The helmet is a small size and he said it came from a dead Hitler Youth sniper whose upper body was still hanging out of an upper story window of a building and had been recently taken out by the military police after the town had been secured and the front line had advanced past the town.Anyway, mine was rated at about $ 75 CAN a few years back, not because of it's true value, but the story on how it was obtained and from whom, behind it :salute:

Small size

That's interesting, Gary - my friend mentioned this is also a smaller size - perhaps it was also Hitler Youth.

Looks like an M42 judging by the "punched" vent holes and flared rim. Not the rarest of German helmets but with the original ReichAdler decal in decent shape as is the liner and chin strap should fetch a couple of hundred dollars on epay, perhaps more if the right buyer comes along.

I have the same style helmet, this one looks cool , but decal looks "to new" with flaked paint , also the Steel rivit pins are the large types and head liner is more of a ww2 vintage for this m16 sytle helmet, if it was ww1 you would have a leather head liner band with cushions plus with the 2 steel face mask lugs , that are missing and small style rivits, and no decal, chin strap looks correct. Cheers

BIG MIKE

Hi Garry

The pics are further up the page in this thread. It's dark green with the decals.
