Soldiers repairing truck [B 59807/4/9] • This Photograph is interesting: this Dodge DD1-16 has a separate body/cab and a wooden GS military body similar to the CMP Aust. No1 body. These DD1-16 Dodge vehicles usually have a ute style body. Similar wooden bodies are also seen on the army Inter K1/K2 truck.

The photo of the two Vickers Light Tanks are interesting but sadly no numbers or markings visible, assume these are two of the 10 Mk6a tanks delivered c.1937

Ford car with a M prefix ?? Looks like a 1939 Standard sedan. The third digit is obscured.

Could be this 5P Ford car: AIF M-269 another 'Arcadia' shipped to M/E . M260 - 262 are also Ford 5P

Not on Arcadia, on Y4, a code for another ship that left on 10 April 1940. '5P' is five passenger capacity. There were only the three Cars, DS, 5P aboard, no other vehicles as far as I can tell.

Vickers Mk.6B

Richard,

No, the tanks in the image are Mk6B from British stocks in the ME. The Mk.6A tanks purchased by Australia didn't leave Australia while in service.

OK

Rather inconsiderate of them to drape the camo net over the car !

After studying the pic more, I believe the car is AIF M-260 or 261 , the digits don't line up in a neat line.

They are about to eat Froumines Delicious biscuits ( kosher food and made in the M/E ) and some kind of tinned food.

The ship codes are interesting.

Ships' Codes

Ships' codes appear to be individually assigned for a particular voyage. A ship could be 'Y4' for one sailing, then another code for the next sailing. Makes tracing which ship is which quite difficult. Fortunately, the OC Troops voyage reports or a unit war diary quite often provide both the code and the ship's name, but for a ship transporting mainly materiel on an independent voyage (ie not convoyed and with few, if any, AIF personnel aboard), a positive ID can be difficult, as in the case of 'Y4'.
