Here's the link

Starting price $A3k. Out of interest, what would something as rust-free as this be worth in the UK?

Here's one of the pics:

Richard - for your interest the process I follow with epay pics is to download them to my computer first then upload as they will disappear from Epay in time and all we'd be left with is a little blue box with a question mark.

It would seen it's current status is more like this:

Richard Coutts-Smith 05-10-07 10:04

Keith,
I'm learning all the time.
Hard to tell if this was bought by the vendor in bits and roughly assembled, or the reverse. Hate to think what the bid would be on a jeep in similar condition....
Rich.

Another Champ on Oz ebay item# 120170371094.
Starting price $7000. Hardly original specs, but does have 2 (thats two!) tacho's. Being pedantic, as is my wont, but how can you have a "Solid canopy and doors" made out of canvas?
Of interest only to myself is that it came of the production line 11 in front of mine. Mind you , the British car industry being what it was then, that may well be 11 MONTHS younger!
Cheery Bye
Rich.

Richard Coutts-Smith 11-10-07 14:07

BTW, First Champ sold for $3612
Rich.

The second Champ was unbid at $7000, is now back on for a quick (3 day) sale, starting at $4000. Item 120174880982 on Aussie Ebay. with the Datsun motor and 2wd conversion it apparently handles like an "Italian exotic".......Quote from 1st adv.
Bye Bye
Rich.

Hi Hanno,
Bedraggled looking pair they are too. Windscreen on the right opens unusally doesn't it. Love that bumper too, the back wheels would be barley touching the ground!
BTW, A "Rare Bird" is possibly the best (and politest) description of a Champ I have ever heard.

Don't often see one of these for sale in the US.
EBay as follows
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Austi...ayphotohosting
Bit rusty but with a starting price of only $800 it would be a cheap start to a whole new world of pain.
Rich

Richard Coutts-Smith 28-11-07 11:47

American Champ sold for $1780.55US.
I think their the only Military vehicle getting cheaper...

Only seen one of these before, civilian Austin Champ with Austin A90 instead of the B40 RollsRoyce. BTW the name "Champ" came from the civilian model, as the original military version was known as FV1801,CT,4x4. or very similar (FV/fighting vehicle, CT/Combat).

Another Amphibious Champ

For sale Ozebay
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1955-Austin-C...QQcmdZViewItem
Amphibious in upto 1.5 meters!! I thought that if you were amphibious you didnt need a depth rating.
Starting at $5000 and heaps of work needed, thems nearly Jeep prices.
Rich

Keith Webb 12-08-08 11:49

Champ

Perhaps the depth thing relates to it's use as a boat anchor

In the immortal words: "Tell him he's dreamin'." :yappy:

Rich..
I know you are right...Anything with Lucas electrics won't even start if it is foggy out and anything with an ignition coil model # LU 4-55 has to be LUCAS...
And they are trying to get us to believe that that "Thing" is running under water...
MWAWAWAWHAHAHAHAhahahahaha!!!!

WA Champ

Perth Champ on E-Bay.

"Austin Champ. One of the most overengineered Jeeps on the planet. Built to British Army Specification after World War 2, running a Rolls Royce B40 engine water proofed engine, this jeep is indestructible.

It just needs someone with the time to restore it's glory. I've had this car running on and off in the last few years, and it had a good service last year. It needs some work on the drive train, which will require someone with the skills and time. "
Needs some work on the drive train? Oh Dear.......
Rich

Ryan 16-08-10 11:06

this one is a bit far

this one is on NZ trade me

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-309321489.htm

:D

Richard Coutts-Smith 18-08-10 08:38

Thanks Ryan,
This is a "real" Champ, which is to say the civilian version (The military one was only a number -FV1800 - it just unofficially adopted the name ) Considerably rarer as well.
Austin filmed a 20min or so PR colour film of two new Civvy Champs on a very hilly NZ sheep farm.
For those that are interested, the difference's are
Austin A90 engine
Civilian dash
One piece wheel rims (to all intents and purposes, Landy rims)
Fixed windscreen frame
Sidesteps
No machine gun mount on scuttle
Filled in front on front mudgaurd.
12 volt

Quite obviously (from these pics) the propensity for rust is exactly the same.
Here endeth the lesson.
Rich.

Perth Champ for sale

On e-bay at the moment, very reasonable price Champ (not Aust. Army). Been fitted with one peice windscreen.

Quote:

"1954 AUSTIN CHAMP
OVERALL ITS IN PRETTY GOOD CONDITION FOR ITS AGE
I HAVE HAD IT RUNNING AND DRIVEN IT ABOUT
BODY IS PRETTY GOOD NO MAJOR DAMAGE JUST A SPOT ON THE PASSENGER REAR WHERE THE TAIL LIGHT IS
MECHANICALLY DOES HAVE A COUPLE OF ISSUES TO SORT OUT
THERE IS A KNOCK IN THE GEARBOX THAT GOES AWAY WHEN YOU PUSH THE CLUTCH IN SO I WOULD DARE SAY ITS LOST A TOOTH OFF THE INPUT SHAFT OR CLUSTER
IT HAS NO BATTERIES AT THE MOMENT - NEEDS 2 UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT - 24 VOLT
IT STARTS MOST OF THE TIME - THINK THE NEEDLE AND SEAT ARE STICKING - ONCE IT STARTS IT RUNS ALL DAY - RADIATOR IS FAIRLY NEW
ALL PARTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THIS CHAMP FROM CHAMP SPARES IN THE UK IF NOT
LOCALLY"
Rich.
